In the center of Oregon wine country, Oak View is within 20 miles of over 250 wineries, two 4-star restaurants, and a host of things to see and do. A stunning vacation awaits you! Arbor Grove Country Cottage consists of three spaces, available via three separate listings. What Arbor Grove space is right for your visit? May we suggest you choose… MAPLE VIEW, if: —There are only 2 of you and you don’t require more than a small footprint, knowing you have access to the (potentially) shared Game Room, Gym, Loft Library, and Laundry, or the great Pacific Northwest outdoors —You don’t require a full kitchen (a coffee nook with microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker meet your needs) —You appreciate the added benefits offered beyond those of a “standard” motel/hotel room —You like being on the ground floor with no stairs OAK VIEW (this listing), if: —There are just 2 of you, but you'd prefer a larger space and a full kitchen —There are up to 4 of you in your party and the older kids or additional adults are fine in a pull-out sofa bed in the living room —You’re family, or close friends, and don’t mind sharing a bath, knowing there is a 1/2 bath in the (potentially) shared laundry room that is available for your use —You wish to cook/bake while away from home and need a fully-equipped kitchen —You love the idea of a large private deck, with space heater for those chilly NW nights and a BBQ for glorious Summer cookouts —You don’t mind climbing stairs to the 2nd story lodging The GROVE, if: —There are 4 people in your group, and you prefer having private bedrooms (2) and bathrooms (2) vs. using the living room sofa bed —There are 6 people in your group, so you require the 2 private bedrooms and the sofa bed in the Oak View living room —You have 6 people in your party and would prefer guests 5 & 6 sleep on the Loft Library corner bed (which has an optional privacy screen and is completely private once everyone is finished with the Game Room for the night), rather than utilizing the sofa bed in Oak View —You have 8 people in your party and require the corner bed to accommodate guests 7 and/or 8 —You like the idea of having the entire Cottage to yourselves without (the potential of) other guests. No matter what option you select, all of the above choices have access to our newly-renovated Game Room, Gym, Loft Library (excluding the sleeping area, unless booking The Grove), and Laundry. If you choose only Maple View or only Oak View, there is the potential that shared spaces may be occupied with just one other party of guests…but that’s the fun of a B&B anyway—the chance to make new friends! We hope that this illustration of the possibilities available at Arbor Grove will help you to plan your perfect getaway! **************************************** Oak View is upstairs in the Cottage @ 800+sq ft, including one bedroom with a queen bed, a living room with a pull-out queen sofa, a fully equipped kitchen and a 3/4 bath. It can accommodate up to 4 people, though we do recommend the sofa for older children rather than adults. Since Oak view is accessible only by stairs, it is not suitable for children 0-5 years or those with disabilities. The Living Room: Guests will find a cozy pullout sofa bed situated for best fireplace (gas) and TV viewing. A 48" Toshiba flat screen television is outfitted with satellite TV, a blu-ray/DVD player and free HBO. You'll have unrestricted access to our personal DVD collection (nearly 450 titles) for your evening's entertainment. A seasonal air conditioner along with the ceiling fan provides a cool space in the hottest months (July/August). The Kitchen: Fully equipped with a 4-burner gas stovetop, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Dishes, glassware, and silverware for 6+ are provided. For the vacationing cook, a full set of pots and pans, casserole dishes and serving pieces are furnished. A coffee maker, blender, electric hand mixer and toaster complete the culinary essentials. The Bedroom: A comfortable queen bed with hotel-quality linens, including your choice of pillow density, ensuring a delightful sleep. An antique dresser and dual closets provide ample storage for your vacation togs. The 3/4 Bathroom: Plenty of elbow room, featuring one sink with ample vanity space, shower and an ADA approved toilet. There is cabinetry with many shelves to stow all your necessities. The Deck: At the entrance to Oak View is your private expansive 280 sq ft deck with a roofline (including ceiling fan) that covers half the area in case of inclement weather. A cheery market umbrella, two comfy chaise lounges, and a large round café table with chairs for four make for a lovely setting. Enjoy the valley/vineyard view while sipping some of Oregon's fine Pinot Noir. We've added a Weber BBQ and a propane heater to extend your enjoyment on the deck in cooler weather. The Game Room (Shared Space)* The Game Room is accessible downstairs via the internal staircase, with an air hockey table, a ping-pong table, a table-based 64-game video arcade, poker table, and a closet with a number of popular board games and puzzles. In addition, there’s a 75” flat-screen TV and Blu-Ray player, a bar, and access (ask Stan) to a 68.5’ slot car track, so there’s an activity for just about anybody! Our small Kitchenette is complete with full-size refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven for snacks while gaming. Included in the Game Room is a Gym Area with weight machine, treadmill, mini-trampoline, recumbent exercise bike and a weight bench for those who want to stay fit on vacation. But wait, there’s more: a loft Library, up the spiral staircase, with a wide selection of reading material and two comfy armchairs to settle into, and a corner queen bed for guests 7 & 8 if you’ve booked the Grove. The Laundry Room and 1/2 Bath (Shared Space)* If laundry facilities are needed, a deep utility sink and brand-new pedestal-mounted LG washer and dryer are located in the game room area, along with a station for folding clothes. A 1/2 bath (toilet and vanity) is also available. *Please remember that the Game Room, Gym, Library and Laundry with 1/2 bath are shared space for all guests, so you may be making new friends, and—in consideration of others—hours of use are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., unless you’ve booked the Grove—then the hours are your own. Our Surrounding Property: Savor the varied experiences on property: a) We invite you to sit a spell at the raised patio's tall bar table with four chairs enjoying the Southern pastoral views including many lovely Italian olive trees and glimpses of our neighbor’s vineyard. b) Take a moment to walk through our diminutive vineyard or sit under the majestic oak tree overlooking a small pond water feature complete with waterfall and resident frogs. If the season is right you may even enjoy fresh fruit off one of our trees (apple, pear, cherry, plum or Italian prune) c) Enjoy the use of our stone patio where you can either soak in the hot tub or roast marshmallows in the fire pit while singing camp songs into the night, complete with logs & fire starter. Seasonal s'mores kit provided - yum! d) Immerse yourself in quiet reflection as you sit on the stone bench or walk through the enchanting one+ acre Douglas Fir forest, complete with barn & chicken coop where, in a previous life, the goats, sheep & chickens roamed. The property is fully enclosed with a 4' fence and has an entrance gate that operates by a code that we will provide upon booking. Guests are able to enjoy their own private space by choosing the Oak View room or the Maple View room, both with separate entrances and each with either a deck or patio area. There is also plenty of parking on the gravel to the right side (North) of the cottage. Please do not block our second entrance/exit gate. Feel free to explore anywhere on the grounds with the exception of the main residence. If you choose to wander in the front yard - and please do as it has fabulous Northern vistas - just be aware that our guest and resident dogs frequent this area. So you may be required to join in a game of fetch! Also—when making your plans, please be aware that based on our location in the valley, we’ve been told that cell phones on the AT&T network have problems with little or no cell service. Our phones are on the Verizon network and have consistently reliable 2 - 3 bar service. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We are here for you! And as such would love to welcome you and show you around upon your arrival. Should you decide to check-in on your own, we'll provide you with the lock box code a few days before your arrival. We are more than happy to provide suggestions and recommendations to the many restaurants, wineries, and local events. We live in the main house on property and are close by either tending the garden or enjoying our dogs. We are available by phone or text at all hours for emergencies but prefer 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. for non-emergencies. We enjoy interacting with guests as much or as little as our guests desire. Our neighborhood is beautiful and quiet (with the exception of occasional barnyard animal moos, heehaws, neighs, gobble gobbles and quacks!). It is very safe to go walking during the day or evening and is a one-mile hike (one way) from our house to the major cross street. It is a lovely (albeit sloped) walk past farm animals (llamas, sheep, horses), and a boutique winery with vast vineyards and fabulous filbert orchards. We are conveniently located right in the middle of over 200 wineries (within 20 miles). Portland is about an hour north while the coast is about 1.5 hours west. So nice to meet you! We were born in Virginia and New Mexico respectively, but have done most of our living in Southern California while we worked in the Aerospace industry and raised two wonderful daughters. We retired and relocated to Newberg, Oregon in October 2012. We were looking for a property with easy access to Portland, but in a rural setting where the house was downsized but the property was upsized with a second separate guest residence for future possibilities. In 2013 we had the dream of opening our apartment, welcoming travelers from far and wide to our little corner of the world, but life had other plans. Our mom and youngest daughter made the decision to follow us from Southern California and took up residency until November 2016 - enter—albeit a little late to the party—Arbor Grove Country Cottage. Since we postponed our vacation rental vision, in January 2014, we made use of this wonderful property and our great love of dogs by em"bark"ing on a dog care business through Dog Vacay (now Rover) - enter Arbor Grove Country Canine (see below and additional details in House Rules). Must Love Dogs: Or at the very least, like them! We have three adorable pups. Two that have boundless energy and love to play. Both of these are young and fabulous! Evie, an Australian Shepherd was born September 2019 and Remy, a Golden Retriever was born July 2021. Our recent addition (10/21) is a rescued Chihuahua-mix around 8 years old who generally stays close to our house. They are all loving members of our family who would love to welcome you "home". Although we have retired from the dog care business, we occasionally host past favorite guest pups. Interaction should be minimal as we have multiple enclosures in which we play and do our walkabouts. Our wish for you, on this get-away and those in the future, is that you find the same calm and clarity that we feel every time we return home to our little piece of heaven here in the Dundee Hills. ============================================= Events in our neck of the woods (dates are approximate): Seasonal ongoing events (pre COVID-19): *Tunes on Tuesday: Free live music!
