Description

Original midcentury character, contemporary comforts, and carefully considered design merge at the Window House, enveloping guests in a familiar, quietly delightful space. This is a home away from home, with amenities that will help make your visit to the High Desert uncomplicated, relaxing, and unforgettable. The space The house is situated in the quiet Hidden River neighborhood, about a 5 minute drive to the center of town and 10 minute drive to Joshua Tree National Park. The houses nearby sit on generous lots, affording privacy without the feeling of being too remote. Stunning views surround day and night. The space is perfect for a solo or couple; it is not set up to accommodate children. Pets are not allowed. The layout is traditional Midcentury (built 1965), with the front doors opening to the open living/kitchen/dining space, a short hall to the left which leads to the bed and bath. A brand new HVAC system of central heat and air conditioning was installed in December of 2022 to keep the home at the right temperature no matter what it is outside. Polished concrete flooring throughout (tiled bathroom). In the kitchen you’ll find the original Copper Tone Hotpoint appliances which are as functional as they are beautiful. In addition to cookware, dinnerware, utensils, and other kitchen essentials, there is a coffee station with Technivorm electric coffee maker, a French press, and a Bialetti cold brewing pitcher. We provide a selection of spices, salt, oil, sugar, a few basic condiments, and an assortment of teas. A stereo system with turntable and Bluetooth receiver, 24” CRT Television set with Roku, VCR and DVD player, as well as a collection of books, records, games, movies and shows on VHS and DVD are all located in the living room. The contemporary flatscreen bedroom TV can easily be rolled into the living area if you prefer. The bedroom is designed for simple tranquility in off-whites, wood and clean lines with mellow passages of color. The queen bed has a medium-firm coil mattress for maximum restfulness and minimum motion transfer. Each night stand has a dimmable reading light. Not pictured is a contemporary flatscreen TV with Roku on a rolling stand for bedroom or wherever viewing, kept in the generous bedroom closet. The closet is outfitted with a five-drawer chest and plenty of hangers. The bathroom has a full tub and detachable/handheld shower head with excellent water pressure. The original gold glitter swirl cultured marble counter top is large enough to accommodate guests’ personal toiletries, and the hall cabinets right next to the bathroom also provide plenty of space for same. We stock shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap and lotion by Public Goods. The room is outfitted with fluffy and absorbent 100% cotton towels and washcloths. The short hallway has a cabinet system with some essentials and plenty of space for guest use. There is also a small coat closet opposite the cabinets. On the front porch you’ll find a cafe table and two chairs, perfect for morning coffee. The space is partially enclosed with a redwood privacy fence (generally the only traffic is the daily mail truck), and shaded by an original scalloped patio cover. Although the views are spectacular anywhere in or outside the house, the back porch boasts the best of them, facing the Eastern hills in the distance. Two lounge chairs and a cube table are there for relaxing, as well as a long table with stools, a great spot to enjoy outdoor dining. The classic weber grill, outfitted with essential utensils, has a metal locker side table for prepping and parking whatever you’re grilling. Dimmable string lights line the patio cover’s fascia for soft lighting after dark. Please send a message with any questions. We hope to provide the home base for an incredible high desert experience!
