Hackmatack Retreat Center is located in Richmond, IL, minutes from the Wisconsin border sitting on almost 30 acres of protected land in the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge. The land is native prairie with a winding slow river, two ponds, 200+ year old oaks, and big sky. With countless places to curl up and write, gathering spaces for group work, and writing nooks and crannies indoors and out, Hackmatack Retreat seeks to offer “time out for time in” amidst this noisy world. There is a typical cozy family room in the lower-level equipped with a smart tv, two beautiful bedrooms with queen beds. The family room also has a portioned twin XL, in case you’re traveling with a larger group. The upstairs is the ideal entertainment or retreat space, open and easily fitting 20 people for various events and gatherings. The kitchen is open and ideal for entertaining and serving. Our space is versatile and yours to use however you can imagine! All of it ! Yay! And all the land ! And the river ! And the ponds ! And the paths! We got you! ❤️🙌 We live next door and we also have staff that live close by to maintain and manage the property, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! We are able to be as accessible as you need us to be, but have also have the technology and set up to make it a seamless arrival process. If you need a bulldog fix , just text us and Charlie can run over 😀😀😀 We are located in Richmond, IL which is a really wonderful combination of feeling really rural, but actually being very conveniently located to necessities! There is a grocery store (Jewel) and a pharmacy (Walgreens) less than 5 minutes away, and downtown Richmond features a quaint downtown with boutiques and great restaurants. At just 20 minutes away, you’ll find yourself in Lake Geneva, a resort town situated on a beautiful lake. The lakeside Shore Path is dotted with Gilded Age mansions, many built by wealthy Chicagoans, and in the warmer months, you are able to walk all the way round the lake, meandering through backyards on one of the best walking paths there is. The downtown is filled with shops and restaurants, a movie theater, and nearby is Big Foot Beach State Park, which boasts hiking and picnic areas. There are a million different water activities and rentals on the lake, and in the winter, you can ski, tube, or even visit ice castles! Other towns within 30 mins are McHenry, Crystal Lake, and Woodstock, which is where the iconic Groundhog Day movie was filmed, and has a charming square and farmer’s market.
