The Airstream is now set in a new ocean-view location, with the same care and amenities. Guest access The Airstream is set on 0.3 acres of beautiful rural property beside our homestead. We live in a nearby cottage (about 75 ft away), with an orchard in between for added privacy. Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden and use the fire pit. We just ask that shared spaces are respected and kept quiet after 10pm. There are neighbours nearby, though the setting remains peaceful and private. You’re a short walk from the beach, with plenty of nearby trails to explore. While you’re here, we recommend visiting the world’s largest totem pole and the U’mista Cultural Centre💫 Other things to note (FAQs) The Property The Airstream is located in the backyard of our homestead. This is a small island community, so there are neighbours (homes in view), but the property itself is peaceful, private, and quiet. Alert Bay is a friendly place—people tend to say hello and connect. If you’re looking for something completely secluded or off-grid, this may not be the best fit. Getting Here (Ferry to Alert Bay) - Access is via ferry from Port McNeill, with ~6 sailings daily. The ferry runs year-round, including weekends and holidays. - First come, first serve (rarely full; capacity ~47 vehicles) - We recommend arriving ~20 minutes early - Approx. $30 return with a BC Ferries Experience Card - Ferry between Malcolm Island and Cormorant Island is free, making it easy to explore both. - For detailed schedules and updates, please check the BC Ferries website. WiFi & Cell Service Starlink WiFi is available and reliable (details provided at check-in). Cell service is available on the island and at the property. LTE works inside the Airstream, though signal may be slightly reduced due to the aluminum shell. Washroom The Airstream is equipped with a Nature’s Head composting toilet located in the wet bath (shared shower/toilet space), typical of tiny living. Biodegradable toiletries are provided, as the grey water system is sensitive. Heat & Wood Stove The Airstream includes two oil-filled radiant heaters. There is also a small Cubic Mini wood stove for additional cozy heat. If you wish to use the wood stove, please let us know in advance. Guests can supply their own wood, or we’re happy to provide bundles for a small fee. Electricity The Airstream is connected to power for lights and appliances however capacity is limited - please avoid running multiple high-load appliances at once (e.g. toaster oven + hair dryer💅) to prevent tripping the breaker. Cooking There is a 3-burner propane stove and oven. Instructions are provided in the guest manual inside the Airstream. Basic cooking supplies are included—feel free to reach out if you need anything additional. Water Alert Bay has excellent drinking water sourced from a natural aquifer. Hot water is available via an on-demand propane system for showers and washing up. Accessibility Unfortunately, the Airstream is not well-suited for guests with limited mobility. There is a step up into the trailer, and accessing the bed may be challenging for some. Additional Guests The Airstream comfortably sleeps two, with space for a third guest using the convertible seating area. If you plan to use this setup, please let us know at the time of booking.
