Oak Tree Retreat
Oak Tree Retreat
Description
Nestled between two treasures of the National Trust, the Devil's Punchbowl and Golden Valley (a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), this quirky cabin is the perfect place to get out in nature—or to simply relax in a cosy cottage garden and soak in the wood-fired hot-tub. The owner's passions for gardening and woodwork are on full display in the hand-built, self-contained studio retreat. We hope you love it as much as we do. The space Self-contained log cabin nestled in the garden of a 1920s bungalow, together occupying 1/5 acre of land. The cabin has one combined bedroom and living area, with a small open plan kitchen offset, and a shower room with toilet. There is a soft king size bed and firm double sofa bed, coffee table and breakfast bar. The cabin was hand-built by the owners, fusing modern fixtures with rustic, live-edge wooden work tops. There are two chests of drawers and space to hang clothes in the main room and shower room but no wardrobe. Outside, there is a private garden with patio, a hot tub, BBQ area and fire pit (additional fees for firewood and cleaning appt - see below). This private area is fenced off from the owners’ part of the garden and won’t be accessed by the owners. There is a larger patio and lawn with trampoline that is used by the owners. The hot tub costs £30 per night to cover cleaning and firewood, and includes wood for the firepit and BBQ if you would like to use them too . We can supply firewood for the firepit and BBQ only for £15 per night. IMPORTANT NOTE IF GUESTS USING HOT TUB: Please ensure you shower first and make sure there are no products like body lotion, sunscreen or oil on your skin. This is vital as the products will make the water go cloudy and look very unappealing. If this happens we will have to drain, clean and re-fill the hot tub which may not be possible in between guests. If the hot tub is unusable for the next guests there will be a £80 cleaning fee. CELEBRATION PACKAGES We have had proposals, mini-moons, birthdays and other celebrations held at Oak Tree Retreat. We can put together bespoke packages to suit these sorts of occasions, ranging from a little extra touches to luxury packages. Please contact the owners for more information and prices. Guest access We offer private access to the cabin through a combination lock gate, from a private driveway. Meander down the country garden path into the secret rhododendron entrance to the cabin. The owners’ part of the garden is shared with a friendly greyhound/whippet and two sometimes-friendly children! The cabin has its own private garden with the wood fired hot tub, BBQ and fire pit which is fenced off and is not accessed by the owners or their dog. Other things to note Please not that the space is not suitable for small children - there and risks of serious injury and drowning associated with the hot tub, the log burner that heats it, the fire pit, unguarded steps, and a deep pond in our part of the garden. If you bring small children it is essential that they are supervised at all times. The land is set on a slope and all guests will need to be able to navigate some steps and uneven surfaces to access the cabin and garden areas. If you require separate beds, there will be an extra charge of £20 for the sofa bedding. Please let us know when you make the booking if you will require the sofa bed. We provide kitchen basics, including bread, cereal, milk, tea and coffee. The hot tub is wood-fired so takes some time to prepare; a well-managed fire will heat it from cold in 2-3 hours during the Summer or 3-4 hours during winter, but only 30-90 minutes if reheating from the previous day. A poorly managed fire, of course, takes longer. We are happy to help with the fire if available to do so.
