Description

Nestled in the centre of Scotland's National Booktown in Dumfries and Galloway, this beautiful, 3 bed cosy cottage benefits from the magic of Wigtown's soul nourishing sense of 'peace', but also enjoys being in the middle of town and within walking distance of shops, pubs, cafes, and a cashpoint! Whether you enjoy fishing, hiking, cycling, golf, beach combing or just kicking back and relaxing, the joy of exploring this beautiful corner of Southwest Scotland will bring you back time after time. The space Thistle Cottage is deceptively spacious, providing plenty of room for a lovely family holiday or a group of friends getting away together to explore and make memories. The cottage is over two floors: GROUND FLOOR Hallway Plenty of hanging space for coats and boot trays for muddy footwear Lounge Two comfortable sofas and an armchair easily seats six adults to wile away a lovely evening watching a good film on TV or DVD, playing board games or just chilling together with a bottle of wine or enjoying a nightcap. ALSO in the lounge: 32" TV (with Freeview Lite, Now Entertainment channels & BT Sport) ~ DVD Player & good library of films ~ Books ~ Desk/bureau with What's On, Events & Activity leaflets and stationery ~ Board games ~ Jigsaws Kitchen - Diner A well equipped and very spacious kitchen makes preparing a meal to enjoy around the large dining table a breeze. There's ample cookware, crockery, cutlery and glassware for 6 people and plastic tableware for small children if needed. Appliances to help make your stay more pleasurable include a microwave, toaster, slow cooker, electric whisk, hand blender and scales. We even have a popcorn machine (and popping corn) as a treat for both adults and children. If you enjoy fresh coffee in the mornings, we have stovetop perculators and a cafetiere, and ground coffee provided in the welcome pack. The kitchen is socked with essentials that should last a short stay including herbs, oil, salt & pepper, tea bags & assorted herbal teas, regular and decaf coffee, brown & white sugar and a few tins for a supper or snack. Should you require extra, the Coop is only a 2 minute walk, and is open 7 days a week 7am-10pm ALSO included: Fridge/Freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, T-towels, kitchen roll, cling film, foil, sandwich bags, bin liners and some cleaning essentials such as washing up liquid, a few dishwasher tabs, a few laundry tabs, surface and floor cleaners. Rear Porch More hanging space for outdoor coats and muddy footwear, a box with towels to rub down dirty or wet dogs and a cupboard housing a sweeping brush, vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket and an iron and ironing board. Bedroom 3 This ground floor bedroom has a lovely comfortable double bed, wardrobe, cabinet and drawers to provide plenty of clothes storage, a full length mirror and a hairdryer FIRST FLOOR Bedroom 1 The main bedroom has a very comfortable king sized bed, room darkening curtains, wardrobe, drawers and a cabinet for plenty of clothes storage, a full length mirror and a hairdryer Bedroom 2 The room has twin single beds, a closet with hanging space and a chest of drawers. There is also a selection of children's books and board games. Shower Room Recently renovated, the large shower, toilet and wash basin will be sparkling clean for your arrival. Towels are provided, as is shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash. Toilet rolls are also provided Reading Nook There is a small and cosy reading nook on the landing - under a skylight window and with a comfortable armchair and small table. It's a convenient, quiet space to hide away with a good book and a cuppa. OUTSIDE To the rear of the cottage is a patio and seating area and a grassed lawn. A shed/summer house houses a bait fridge and freezer for use by anglers to store bait. A small table and loungers can be used inside the summer house or taken outside to the garden area. Also outside is a lockable bicycle storage shed - we advise guests to bring their own padlock for maximum security. There is an outside tap and hosepipe for washing off bicycles, muddy boots and muddy furry friends - sorry only cold water feed! Please note: the garden is private and enclosed by walls and fence, however large breeds of dog (and the more determined small dogs) would be able to escape over the rear wall - escape artists will need supervision in the garden. Small children will also need supervision as there is a step up to the garden from the cottage. Wigtown is within easy access to the fabulous coastline of Southwest Scotland with beautiful beaches, scenic walks and great fishing and outdoor activities. Exploring the lovely villages, shops, eateries and historic sights is a real joy and just the start of what Southwest Scotland has to offer. Beautiful lush countryside, quiet country roads, abundance of nature and wildlife and amazing scenery will delight nature lovers, whilst the coast, rivers and nearby lochs will keep anglers very happy indeed. There are activities to suit nearly everyone, from gentle strolls on the beach, to demanding hikes in the Galloway Forest Park, watersports, golfing, stunning exotic gardens and cycling (with an abundance of cycle routes, including 5Stanes mountain bike trails). And for bookworms and authors, Thistle Cottage is in the heart of Scotland's National Book town, with over 20 amazing bookshops and book related businesses - so many books and so little time, if only it were possible to absorb knowledge and experience by osmosis! Since 2009, Galloway Forest Park has been designated as only the fourth Dark Sky Park in the world and the first in the UK, with exceptionally dark skies where people have committed to controlling light pollution. This makes Southwest Scotland, and especially the Forest Park, an incredible place to stargaze and during the darker months, to look out for the Northern Lights. The night skies in this corner of the world are just stunning. Guest access Guests have access to the whole house and garden. There are three locked Housekeeping cupboards that guests do not have access to. Other things to note Please note that the pavement outside the cottage is uneven and unsuitable for people with mobility problems, and there is no bathroom/ facilities on the ground floor. We don't provide stair gates, high chairs or cots.
