Description
Kick back and relax in the stunning hamlet of Acton, high above Swanage bay. With views across the open country and sea glimpses, enjoy walks along the adjacent Priests Way, and astonishing open countryside on your doorstep. A dog and child-safe walled garden help to make this a wonderful place to escape to, for walking, swimming, biking and relaxing. Nearby attractions include the Swanage steam railway and beaches, Corfe Castle, and the Dorset adventure Park- there is something for everyone! The space Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the corner of picture-postcard Acton Village, this stone built cottage dates from the 1870’s, built as a quarryman’s cottage for the nearby Purbeck Stone quarry. All of the roads in Acton Village are unmade tracks, making it ideal for evening strolls and a throwback to less complicated times. Bordering the South-West Coast Path and The Priests Way, the cottage and village enjoy outstanding views across Swanage Bay, the cliffs towards Chapmans Pool, and the countryside inland towards Corfe Castle. Recently renovated by the owners, the house features 3 delightful double-aspect bedrooms, a large cosy lounge with a wood-burner, a stunning dining room with French windows to the walled garden, and a sunny conservatory with a serving hatch to the bright and modern country kitchen. The kitchen and conservatory feature Purbeck Stone floors, with cosy underfloor heating. The bright kitchen has a large window looking out across the common and is modern country kitchen in style. It has a Nespresso coffee maker with complimentary coffee pods, and is well equipped with cookware and crockery, a toaster and microwave oven as well as a dishwasher, washing machine, and tumble drier. The conservatory is often used as a breakfast room since it enjoys the sun most of the day, and has a table to seat 4-6 as well as a seating area to simply sit and enjoy the sun and watch the kids playing in the garden. The panelled lounge has a music area, (bring your guitars!), and a bar with stools to sit and enjoy the music as well as evening views across the common. A wood burner makes this very cosy space to nestle down and relax. The elegant dining room has a table that extends to comfortably seat 6. It is dual aspect with views out to the fields and over the courtyard garden. A back hall with lots of room for coats and boots and a downstairs loo complete the downstairs accommodation. The main hall is double height, making the space feel light and airy, with a window looking out across the fields and cliffs to Chapmans pool (with a glimpse of the sea!). Upstairs, the double aspect main bedroom enjoys a king-size bed, and a gorgeous en suite bathroom. This has a lovely freestanding bath, with views across the fields whilst you soak, and and overhead shower as well as a heated towel rail. The twin room is another very bright double aspect room. Our family enjoy snuggling in the French antique twin beds and drifting off with views across the open countryside! The third bedroom has a comfortable double bed, large double aspect windows, looking out across the countryside towards Corfe, and has large built in cupboards with plenty of hanging space. The family bathroom has an electric shower and heated towel rail. Outside, the garden is completely enclosed, with walls all round and gated to the front, making this very safe play space for children and pets. It gets sun through all of the day, including the evening drinks and BBQ slot, with shade areas too for those that prefer a cooler place to sit. There is a barbecue for guests to use, and a pull out washing line for last minute essential laundry. Guest access The space will be entirely yours, it is largely detached and sound proof- we have had noisy children and guitars with no complaints. We do have a fold up cot and a high chair for smaller guests- just let us know if you need them. Well behaved dogs are very welcome. Other things to note The garden is small and is overlooked by some small windows from the neighbours cottages, although the conservatory is completely private and the neighbours friendly! The ground floor has wide doors so access is good for visitors with reasonable mobility. There is a step to access the garden from the road, and another in the middle of the house, and the bedrooms are all upstairs. The staircase is a modern open tread wooden construction with good handrails (see photos). Whilst comfortable for most guests, the wood is a little more slippery than a carpetted finish. We typically provide some wood for the woodburner in winter months and some coal for the BBQ, but if this is important to you, do let us know in advance and we will check previous guests have not used it all!
