Hypatia is a 32' 1998 Bluebird school bus that we've converted to a cozy vacation suite and parked in our side yard in downtown Gainesville, Florida. Experience low-impact living on this 256 square foot diesel tiny house, woman-built with craft, art, and a variety of repurposed materials. Located downtown, walking distance to cafes, shops, breweries, and UF. The space Sleeping areas include a plush queen bed as well as bench seating that can be modified to create a single bed. All windows have privacy tinting and curtains and every-other window is screened and can be opened for breezes on cool nights. There is a portable air conditioning unit, and a mounted wall fan that can face the bed or oscillate on warm nights. There is an effective and safe space heater and a heated blanket for cold nights. The bus is well-insulated and we have found it easy to control the temperature of the space, especially in the moderate north central Florida climate. The kitchenette includes a gravity-fed sink with a simple grey water system, mini fridge & freezer, microwave, electric stove, and toaster oven. We also provide a coffee grinder & French press, a pot, a pan, and enough plates, bowls, cups, and silverware for two. Living space includes a dining booth which can double as a desk-work station, bench seating, a bookshelf with a small library and board game selection, a guitar, magnetic poetry for making poems on the ceiling, and a small patio with an outdoor rug and hammock at the bus entrance. There is a private hot outdoor shower (propane heated) and the bathroom has a basic water-free toilet with a urine diverter. Instructions for toilet use can be found on the info sheet on the kitchen table. This process is safe, sanitary, and better for the environment than flush toilets which waste 3.5 to 7 gallons of fresh water per flush! Guest access Guests have access to the side yard where the skoolie is parked (you can't miss it). The bus is private and has its own keyless entrance through a combo lock. The driveway is shared with the back apartment that we live in and a front apartment we rent out. Our driveway can only accommodate one guest's car per stay, but you can find on-street parking a couple blocks away if needed. Other things to note We have a small black cat named Io who may say hello if you see her outside in the yard, she loves people. Hypatia is 100% non-smoking. We reserve the right to charge a $200 cleaning fee if this rule is broken. If you do smoke, please do so outside only and dispose of your (fully extinguished) cigarettes in the exterior trash can. This is not a spot for partying, we live adjacent to the bus and will be offended if you are super loud or disrespectful of the space. Don't make us clutch our pearls! This spot is best for short term stays of 2 days or less and may be most comfortable for one adult. We want to facilitate a good guest experience, so please communicate your needs with us during your stay!
