Rustic Mountain Casita
Rustic Mountain Casita
Description
Stay at 6200 ft, in a quaint one-room, 400 square ft mountain casita. Built in the 40’s, two brothers lived in it and rented horses for city folk to take mountain excursions. Now we’re renting it out for any folk to make their own excursions! Escape the city, see the stars, explore Sandia Mountain. The space The casita is one room with a small ¾ bathroom. There’s a queen bed and small fold-down couch. The kitchen has a single electric cooktop and a small sink. A minisplit and the woodstove keep the place toasty. Just two miles up the road is Sandia Man Cave, extensive hiking, and a beautiful mountain stream and picnic ground. With a Subaru or SUV you can take Hwy 165 all the way up to Sandia Crest, which is just over 10,000 ft high. Our property backs up to National Forest, so hiking and exploration is just outside your door. Get to the Santa Fe Plaza in under an hour, and Balloon Fiesta Park and Albuquerque in 30 minutes. Guest access There is parking in a shared driveway, and a short stone walk up to the casita. Other things to note We are a working hobby farm: we milk goats, raise eggs layers, meat chickens, and pigs, and garden extensively in a commercial hoophouse. Guests should be ready to hear the roosters crows in the morning and the goats bah in daylight hours. When they’re in season, we’ll have fresh farm products available for all of our guests. Even though our place is right on Hwy 165, we’re way out here! Just a quarter-mile down the road, the highway turns to dirt. There’s not consistent cell service, though internet is available if you like it. This is the beauty of our place: Bernalillo and Rio Rancho are only ten and fifteen minutes away, but you feel truly remote. Finally, we’re also raising three boys, ages 5, 3, and 3 months. There’s a trampoline in the yard and general kid commotion during daylight hours. Your kids are welcome to yell and holler and run around; ours do plenty of that. We could accommodate families larger than 3 if the kids are ok with a futon on the floor.
