Stay in a quiet neighborhood home.
We have two guest rooms for rent (one queen, one double), as well as a third floor loft with two twin beds (good for kids) and it's own 1/2 bath. The full bath on the second floor is shared, and there is also a half bath on the first floor. Our house is a tall 3 bed, 2 bath home built in 1920. One the second floor, two rooms are available. One has a very comfortable queen bed and the other has an antique double bed; the second floor bedrooms share a hall bath with shower. There is also a large loft style (mansard) room which has 2 twin mattresses (trundle style) and a "half bath" which also has a full-sized bath tub but no shower. The kitchen is available to use as long as you clean up after yourself. The home is located on a brick-paved street about 8 blocks (10 minute walk) from downtown. It's about a half dozen blocks from the university. Emporia is a town of about 25,000 that is centered around Emporia State University where Gaelynn is a professor of art therapy. James is an attorney. About 20 minutes away is the Tallgrass National Prairie. Guests are welcome to share the living areas with us. Fluffy towels are placed in each room, and we have soaps, shampoo, etc. if you forget anything. If you are staying for several days or are here for the Dirty Kanza or a Disc Golf Tournament, you're welcome to use the laundry or prepare simple meals in the kitchen. We are happy to show you around town a bit or simply let you explore on your own. We tend to stay up until about 11:30pm but you are free to come and go as you please. We have one dog, Desmond (a 16 year-old Black Labrador). He is good with children and most other dogs. He does not do well with cats, rabbits, ferrets, etc. The neighborhood is one of the more established in Emporia with charming homes and lots of shade trees on both sides of the brick street. Public transport is very limited, but the town itself is only several square miles. There is a small bus (called the C-CAT); arrangements can be made to use that bus. It's a friendly area for biking, walking, or jogging. Disc Golf enthusiasts will find easy access to the Country Club as well as Jones park. Wi-Fi is available.
