Description
The Coastguard Cottages at Weybourne are perched on the cliff-top on the Norfolk Coast Path, with uninterrupted views of the surrounding fields and sea. The terrace was built in 1904 and to this day has no mains electricity, reflecting the handsome, solid utility of their original purpose. We have owned number 4 for over 20 years and have always delighted in escaping off-grid. We love the house, the views, swimming in the sea and letting our children run beyond calling distance. (dog heaven) The space The cottage has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen with dining table and woodburning stove and a front room, also with woodburning stove and a piano. There is hot water on demand and the stove and oven are fueled by LPG gas. The electrical supply is by solar panels and wind turbine which charge a battery bank, supporting LED lights, the refrigerator and providing charging for phones and other devices. Though there is no WiFi available, there is a strong 4G signal at the cottage, so you could use your phone or tablet as a hotspot – we take the opportunity for our kids to have time away from screens and to tell work that we are going off-grid! If you are an artist or writer, this is the perfect retreat - an old brick shed makes a lovely outside studio with easel, table and chair. Bedroom 1, upstairs front – super king or twin beds Bedroom 2, upstairs back – double bed Bedroom 3, downstairs – bunk bed (with trundle) Front room – sofas, games and a piano Kitchen – with dining table, LPG oven and stove, refrigerator Outside – parking for 2 cars, fenced front garden, shared backyard, with bbq and picnic bench Heating – wood burning stoves in the kitchen and front room Lighting – portable, chargeable LED lights Views – spectacular! Guest access The cottage has a parking space for two cars and a small private front garden. There is also a shared communal space at the back of the house, but as our neighbours have dogs, we would ask that your pet is confined to the front garden only. Other things to note 4 Coastguard Cottages is accessed down a dirt track from the A149 Coast Road. Limited electricity is provided by solar panels and wind turbine – plenty to run the fridge and to charge the lights and your devices. Off-grid means no mains electricity (no TV, no WiFi, no washing machine, no dishwasher, no hairdryer – and please don’t bring a hair dryer; our solar panels cannot power it). There is hot water on demand, but no central heating. In cool weather, think layers and slippers. Electric blankets will keep you warm at night. There is one bathroom upstairs, with toilet & bath with shower attachment. Bedding and towels are provided, as is all cooking equipment. We will make sure that there is milk in the fridge and tea and coffee in the cupboard, but you will need to bring all your other food supplies. There is a rechargeable Bluetooth speaker in the house. You may wish to bring beach towels. Pets are welcome in the house and front garden only please.
