Other things to note 🌿 A Friendly Note About Visiting Guatemala & Lake Atitlán We want every guest to arrive with the right expectations so you can fully enjoy everything that makes Guatemala magical, real, and beautifully unique. Guatemala isn’t a polished resort destination like Cancun- and that’s exactly why people fall in love with it. Each region has its own rhythm, charm, and realities. Lake Atitlán is breathtaking, vibrant, and full of life… but it is still a developing area. Coming with an open mind makes all the difference. Here are a few things to keep in mind so you can enjoy your stay like a local: 🌱 1️⃣ You’re Staying in Nature Lake Atitlán sits in a lush, tropical environment. With nature come insects, geckos, mosquitoes, and the occasional friendly spider. We fumigate regularly, but you may still see a few little visitors- it’s simply part of life in the Guatemalan jungle. Most are harmless and can easily be removed. If you’re extremely uncomfortable with the idea of bugs, this region might feel very different from what you’re used to. 🏡 2️⃣ Guatemala Has Its Own Way of Doing Things You’re visiting a country with a rich culture, deep history, and very different resources than more developed nations. Everything, from construction styles and materials to appliances and local infrastructure, reflects the reality of this beautiful country. Please come ready to appreciate Guatemala for what it is, not measure it against where you’re from. The differences are part of the adventure and charm. ⚡️ 3️⃣ Expect Occasional Outages (It’s Normal Here) Because Guatemala is developing, things like WiFi, water, and electricity may experience occasional interruptions, especially in rural areas like Lake Atitlan. This happens throughout the region and isn’t specific to our home. We do everything we can to provide comfort, stability, and quick solutions, but the local infrastructure can have its own timeline. A little flexibility goes a long way here. 🎉 4️⃣ Guatemalans Loves Life… Loudly Guatemalan culture is joyful and vibrant. It’s normal to hear: • Fireworks (for literally any reason) • Music from nearby fiestas • Motorcycles, tuk-tuks & street vendors • Church parades • Construction Most houses don’t use insulation because of the incredible year-round weather, so some noise carries. Instead of fighting it, we invite you to embrace it, it’s a lively expression of the culture you came to experience. ☕️ 5️⃣ Welcome Essentials We provide purified water, coffee, sugar, salt, and a few basics as a one-time courtesy to get you started. When you run out, you’re responsible for replenishing your own consumables. The tiendas and markets nearby make it easy. 🌞 Your Trip, But Better If you’d like insider tips on the best restaurants, activities, hidden gems, and how to truly enjoy Lake Atitlán… check out our guidebook: “Enjoy Lake Atitlán Like a Local.” https://abnb.me/kiStqwEX8Cb Hair dryer, extra blankets, beach towels, clothing iron and fresh towels are available upon request. We’re always here to help make your stay as comfortable, fun, and stress-free as possible.
