Escape to Devon, Idyllic Countryside Retreat
The Cartshed is everything you might expect from visiting Devon, 20 mins from the A38 and located in the heart of 100 acres of organic pasture, orchards, streams and woodland – simply idyllic. The farm itself dates back over 1000 years but the current owners decided in 2021 to convert the old Cartshed into what it is today – a superb retreat or romantic getaway, with room for up to 4 guests (only one child) to unwind and enjoy. The space Originally, the Cartshed was where the horse-drawn carts and machinery were stored. Opposite is the cider barn, which was used to house a very large apple crusher and press used to make the cider and stable the farm horses. If you’re here in Autumn, you’re welcome to help yourself to the apples and blackberries that fall from the trees! The property projects a very warm, relaxing and peaceful feel. Enjoying an open planned layout with comfy sofas, well equipped kitchen (portable oven), dining area and wood burning stove that’s just a delight to sit alongside, whilst gazing out across the valley enjoying a glass of your favourite tipple. There is a private and enclosed rear garden area, accessed from the French doors in the kitchen which provides you with the perfect place to start your day, enjoying a morning coffee whilst watching the cows wander by. Upstairs, the mezzanine floor is home to the bedroom with small window overlooking the Valley behind and balcony providing an overview to the open planned living below. There is also a sofa bed that can be made available if required and we ask you to confirm that when booking. The pond next to the property is naturally sourced by the stream in the upper woods, so the water levels can fluctuate depending on the rainfall. Look out for wild herons, ducks and kingfishers that like to visit the pond during their travels. Children MUST be supervised at all times. At dusk and dawn, keep an eye out for deer in the steep fields as well as the barn owls that occasionally nest in the cider barn. During the summer months, buzzards nest in the valley and dozens of swallows fly and swoop in the fields before having a good natter on the telegraph line (we counted 67 on the line last year!). Externally there are a number of local walks to enjoy (don’t forget your wellies), the local pub is just a couple of miles away along with a convieneince shop and local fuel garage. The towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe are a 20minute drive and the nearest beaches being Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands 9 and 10 miles respectively. The Cartshed allows you an opportunity to enjoy what the heart of Devon really has to offer, whether it be a romantic getaway, anniversary or just a space to unwind and relax, it won’t disappoint. If you have any questions please send us a message :) Guest access The entire property. Other things to note Due to the close proximity of the pond we regrettably do not allow children. The Farm has an abundance of natural wildlife, which is what makes it so special. The owners birds Kath & Kim the peahens, Rex the chicken (sadly, lost Camilla to Mr Fox), Effy the black Pollie dog are very friendly and will like to say hello but the owners will do their best to minimise their visits. There is also two new additions to the family, Muffin and Sheeba the rescue cats, both are very shy and like to stay in the farmhouse. The animals are not allowed in the Cartshed to avoid any issues with guests with pet allergies.
