Modern Apartment in downtown historic building

Enjoy thoughtful design and easy access to everything in this centrally-located downtown Mt. Vernon apartment next to the public square. Experience everything the town has to offer: the next door cafe terrace, the public square park that hosts summer events, farmers markets, numerous restaurants, coffee houses, hip breweries and a co-working space all within walking distance. Only 5-10 minutes to Knox Community Hospital, Kenyon College and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. The space With its turn of the century charm, The McKinley Building (the building that is home to the apartment) has graced the backside of Mt. Vernon's town square for over a century! By staying in our apartment suite, you are helping support a family who has had roots in the area since the early 1900s and and even founded a small town nearby (Ankneytown, Ohio). This is as local as it gets! We are a small locally-owned family business and love to share the wonders of our town with you. We always try to leave locally made treats for guests (such as Amish baked pies or pumpkin butter!) for longer stays. The apartment is on the third floor of a 3 story building. The historic 1800s building is very unique and has hidden details everywhere. Please note that there are only stairs to access the apartment, so be prepared for a little exercise (you can skip the gym after staying a few days:)). The apartment is fully furnished with everything you could possibly need and decorated with high-end luxury furniture and decor. The apartment is a 2 bedroom featuring design details in every corner, thoughtfully designed and decorated by a professional architect and designer. The style is mid century modern meets rustic contemporary design, tied together with plants, art, and vibrant decor. In total there are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, patio, dining room/living room, as well as access to a shared laundry room and small gym (opening in 2024) in the basement. The main bedroom is large and comfortably fits a desk and full sized bed, and the second bedroom is very small and fits a twin sized bed and small closet. In total there are 2 beds, a full size and twin size (with brand new, very comfy mattresses). If there are 4 guests, please note that either 2 children can share the twin bed, we have a a full sized air mattress, or the couch has a small pull out bed (it's more of a small cot). The apartment was recently renovated, including an entire redone bathroom, kitchen and lots of new fixtures and fun decor. It is designer friendly, with wonderful natural light that our plants love, as well as lots of games and activities for the whole family. From Monopoly to MadGab, tick tack toe and checkers - and we have puzzles and even an artist station where you can paint (by numbers) your next masterpiece! *Please note that if you are booking for 4 guests, the fourth guest will have to sleep on an air mattress or share the twin bed (i.e. if there are two small children that share the twin bed). The air mattress can fit in the large bedroom or the living room, but please note that the living room is not suitable for light sleepers, as it is next to the street (you can hear street traffic late at night) and there are many windows (approximately 8 windows between the living and dining room!) and therefore a lot of light gets in. We do not recommend children nor light sleepers sleeping in the living room for this reason. That being said, our place is ideal for 3 guests and the bedrooms are secluded, with curtains at every window in both bedrooms. Guest access You will have access to the entire apartment including 2 bedrooms, a balcony, living room, kitchen and bathroom, as well as all the shared amenities spaces, including the laundry room and gym and recreational activities.* *The gym is opening in 2024. Please inquire about the opening date in relation to your reservation. *Two bicycles and accessories (helmets, locks, etc) are available beginning in the spring of 2024. Please inquire about using the bikes and accessing the lock codes before the start of your reservation so we can have it prepared for you. Other things to note Please feel free to inquire about the current state of the renovations taking place. Recently the stairwell of the building and the living room floors was painted and we can't wait to share more progress pictures of the transformation! Our building recently won a historical society program, including being adding to the national registrar of historic buildings. Please review the pictures and all details in the listing - if you are not comfortable with staying in a 150 year old building, this may not be the place for you! Our beautiful building is undergoing a significant historic renovation. Due to historic program requirements, it's an ongoing process. The apartment is lovely and complete as our pictures show, including several new appliances and beautiful decor and designer furniture - there is still work being done in the building, including some of the common areas in the basement and restoring facade (and an 1800's dumbwaiter!). We hope you enjoy our very unique apartment and historic neighborhood on the back of the public square of Mt. Vernon (founded in 1805!). ———— You will have access to a private 2 bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor, including a dining room and living room, kitchen, patio and bathroom. The apartment building has 5 other units, which are home to other tenants and one other Airbnb. If anyone asks you, you can say you are a guest staying in Apartment 6. That's it! The only shared space is the laundry room and gym, in case you wish to do any laundry during your stay. Note: The dryer takes $1 in quarters to do a load. If the clothes come out of the washer wet, run just the spin cycle for another round. There is no eating or drinking allowed on the living room furniture. Please do not move furniture, plants or decor in the apartment. If you’d like to request moving furniture for any reason, we ask that you contact us first.
