Description
Carrageen is in a beautiful part of the wild North Cornish coast, surrounded by green fields, yet with far-reaching views to the sea. A 12 minute drive to Widemouth Bay, a popular surfing beach, and 10 minutes to Bude…a thriving coastal town with award winning beaches, shops, cafes and restaurants. Explore the stunning South West coastal path or pick up one of the cycle routes that pass the cottage. This is a perfect place to accommodate a peaceful or active getaway. The space Carrageen is a private, peaceful, light-filled, and spacious one-bedroom home, with ample parking in front of the property, and space for surfboards, bikes etc. Walk through the little blue gate into a pretty Southwest facing courtyard……where the outdoor table and chairs encourage an alfresco barbecue under the apple tree. Sip a glass or two of wine, or a local Cornish ale, whilst watching the sun set over the Atlantic. We get amazing skies that we never tire of! And on some days you can hear the sea….when it is rough! I garden specifically for wildlife, so please note this IF you have an aversion to insects!!! Enter the private front door into a small hallway. There is a fully equipped kitchen, which is ideal for those who enjoy relaxing whilst working their culinary skills! This has a new retro style fridge/freezer, an induction hob, a double electric oven with grill, a Bosch washing machine (with a line to dry clothes in the back yard) and a two person dishwasher. A selection of local cookbooks are displayed for you to peruse and be inspired by! The lounge has a sense of space, with it’s high ceiling and skylights. It is a lovely light room to relax in, even on a dull day, with antique pine furniture, local art, books and plants…..and far reaching views to the sea. A large patio door opens onto the front courtyard garden. On chillier evenings, close the linen curtains and cosy up on one of the sofas in front of the wood burning stove (wood and kindling will be supplied for you ). There is a Smart tv, but please be aware that the signal can be sporadic, depending on the weather, (BBC 1 is better on channel 101!) but the internet is good! A circular table is a place to eat for a romantic meal, or provides a place to work at, with easy access to a plug socket. IF you decide to come in December, Carrageen will be lit with fairy lights! A contemporary shower room with large shower cubicle, is adjacent to the bedroom. I provide Faith in Nature products. The beautiful bedroom is a calm space where you can sink into the comfortable, kingsize, cream metal bed, dressed with a pure linen or cotton duvet cover, cotton sheet, feather and anti/allergenic pillows. There is a large old pine chest of drawers, with hairdryer, and hanging hooks for clothes. I have a travel cot plus mattress (with bassinet for a tiny baby) which can be put up on request. I also have an Ikea highchair. Additionally, I can put a single mattress on the floor for an older child. Carrageen is adjacent to our 1920’s family home, but is completely private. It is all set up for a short break or a two week holiday…..or longer! The proximity to many wonderful award winning beaches (some blue flag), and the bustling town of Bude make it an ideal holiday destination. Boscastle, Tintagel, Duckpool, Morwenstow, Hartland are all beautiful places to visit. Dartmoor, Port Isaac, Padstow, Polzeath, the Camel trail, the Tarka trail, Tavistock, Llanhydrock, and Rosemoor are further afield but just a few of many places worth a journey. We love to take a day down to Eden or The Lost Gardens of Heligan, or St Ives. There is no part of Cornwall or North Devon you cannot explore! For those attending a wedding at Glebe House, Bridgerule, we are 1.3 miles away . NB: Terry and I respect diversity and inclusion and warmly welcome people from all backgrounds. Guest access There is plenty of guest parking and room for surf/sup boards and bikes….and a kayak or two! Other things to note Carrageen is set up for two adults. However, we are very happy to accept a child/ baby/ two children , but please be mindful that the house is not toddler proofed!…. no cupboard locks, plug socket covers…..and the bedroom would have to be re-arranged, so please may I know at booking. We also have a white IKEA high chair and a new travel cot. Please ask about more than one child staying.
