Rustic Paradise. Walk to Callicoon!
Our simple but charming and comfy farmhouse has access to the river, prime fishing, autumn foliage and comes with bikes, kayaks and tubes for the ultimate lazy river experience! Walk over the bridge, catch the stunning view upstream and take in the wonderful river town of Callicoon NY with its unique shops, restaurants, Sunday farmer’s market and live music, or see a film at the historic Callicoon Movie Theater. Perfect for 2 to 4 nature lovers. This home is truly an escape from urban living. Our house is unique for its early period character and charm. Close walking or biking to town or to witness the stunning sunsets on the bridge. Private river access at the end of our drive and complete privacy in the back, with porch, outdoor shower, dining area, expansive yard facing the woods and vast blanket of sky to take in the dramatic starry nights. You’ll enjoy our home’s many comforts and antiques from mid-century to earlier farmhouse style; from the original art to a vast array of books. It's kept simple. For instance, there is no dishwasher (hand-washing has turned out to be meditative and just a great time to listen to some music or a podcast). Relax and enjoy the endless sights and sounds of nature. When you're restored, walk over the bridge and treat yourself to delicious food and drink at the Callicoon Wine Merchant. Guests initially enter through the back door. Key is hidden and easily accessible. Once in, open the front door from the inside. In keeping with the period (1880s) modern amenities are at a minimum, so no microwave, dish- or clothes washer. (There’s a laundromat in town.) Some quirks: the ceiling of the main bedroom (which we call the aerie) is angled along the roofline (so watch your head). To get downstairs (to reach the bathroom, e.g.), you pass through the second bedroom. (It’s best if everyone likes each other!) We do have Wi-Fi and a new fridge. The Blue Star stove can be tricky so we recommend using a lighter to start it up. (See manual.)
