Description

A newly renovated spacious self-contained 2 bedroom suite within the East Wing of Llanharan House, a Grade 2* listed Georgian mansion dating from 1753. Features include high ceilings, sash windows, panelling, a cast iron bath as well as the large original kitchen. Approached through wrought iron gates and set within 40 acres of registered parkland, footpaths offer direct access to lovely walking, including the Glamorgan Ridgeway walk. Accessible directly by train and only 4 miles from the M4. The space The spacious accommodation extends to 146m2 (1590ft2) has its own entrance which is reached from its dedicated parking to the rear of the buildings down old stone steps across a quiet York stone paved courtyard past the house's converted historic stables, dairy and laundry buildings. A dedicated entrance porch and boot room with flagstone floors with plenty of space to leave outdoor gear leads into both the house's original kitchen and to its hallway and staircase. The accommodation is spread over 2 floors. The kitchen has large proportions and architectural features including its large historic hearth and arched niches either side. There is a marble and oak dining table seating six. Two large antique cupboards are used to store crockery and dry goods. A window seat with shutters looks onto a private area of North West facing courtyard with a round wooden table and seating for four which catches the evening sun. There is both a four oven Aga and separate induction hob and fan oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The kitchen connects through a door into the living room (former scullery) and features a victorian mirror and the original safe of the house, it has a sofa and a 40" Sony Bravia TV with Netflix and BBC iPlayer. A dedicated workspace is set in a bay to one side of the room with a desk, lamp and chair. From the private hall, a winding carpeted stair leads to a generous panelled landing area from which the bathrooms and bedrooms are reached. The two bedrooms each face South East with uninterrupted views past the ancient cedar tree across the historic parkland to the horizon of the hill opposite which was once part of the estate. One large and 1 smaller bedroom both have king sized victorian brass beds with wooden floors, rugs and antique chests of drawers. The larger room has two fitted wardrobes with hangers and a full length mirror inside. There are full length gainsborough silk curtains in the larger room and damask neutral curtains in the smaller room. Both rooms have blackout blinds. From the landing area, a connected bathroom and shower room, each with their own basin and WC can be accessed. The main bathroom features a sash window with shutters, its restored original cast iron roll top bath and historic wallpaper and painted timber boarded floors. A shared private track rises through the park past an ancient line of sweet chestnut trees towards the buildings. A public footpath behind the site connects both to the village of Llanharan and directly to the South West and up the hill to the North East to join 600 acres of Natural Resources Wales’ Llantrisant forest, with an extensive network of trails including the Ridgeway Walk. Guest access The entrance to the accommodation is reached by descending an external stone staircase. The accommodation is entirely independent and has its living quarters downstairs and a staircase leading upstairs to the bedrooms and bathroom. Other things to note Host will meet you on arrival to give key and an introduction. The accommodation has been carefully restored and renovated to enable guests to enjoy the historic qualities of part of this magnificent and unspoilt building. Whilst every effort has been made to make these delightful, it is not a brand new building and guests should be prepared to celebrate its differences! In particular, care should be taken when descending the stone steps approaching the property especially when they are wet. Please request assistance or advice if any member of your party might need it. I live and work in the adjoining house and am available to answer any concerns before or during your stay. Also whilst there is ample space and privacy, larger parties and unaccompanied children are discouraged since other parts of the buildings are let to long-term tenants. Mutual respect for each others peace and privacy will be greatly appreciated!
