Foliage in Vermont at the Yellow Cottage

15 minutes off I89. In the sweet yellow cottage nestled between green pasture, babbling brook, and the quiet bustle of farm operations, find yourself in the perfect place to relax. Read or write with your cup of tea on the wrap around deck, surrounded by flowers, birdsong, the tiny beat of hummingbird wings, windchimes, and the lowing of our beef cattle across the hills and the whinny of horses on the farm. The space The cottage is small, but spacious and cozy, with lots of big opening windows, air movement and light. Most days you will hear not much more than the rustle of leaves, the occasional animal call, possibly a car or two passing on the country road from a distance, and the day-to-day goings on of farm life - sometimes a tractor or mower or chainsaw, the clip-clopping of horse hooves, a cow calling to her calf, maybe a clucking chicken. Depending on the season, with the window open behind your bed pillows, you can hear the gentle brook right outside. The house is decorated with an old-fashioned Vermont country simplicity, lots of comfy cushions made by a local silk-screener, and the walls appointed with wonderful local artwork of nearby barns, covered bridges and pastures. There is magical, soft lighting throughout, privacy curtains, house plants and outdoor flowers, and a very homey, peaceful feel of rejuvenation and slowing down all around. The kitchen has everything you could need to cook a scrumptious meal, or bring one back from many of the nearby farm stands or farmer's markets. There is a queen size bed with a two inch Avocado mattress organic topper, plenty of plush pillows and comforters, and the couch is big enough and comfy enough to sleep one additional person. Guest access While you're here, please enjoy the cottage and deck all to yourself, and the lawn directly in front of the cottage. While we don't wish guests to wander the rest of the farm without permission (mostly for your safety around electric fences and farm equipment, and the safety of our animals!), we are happy to recommend lots of nearby hiking, swimming and local secrets! Please drive carefully as there are frequently horses being ridden on our driveway and across Brook Road. Other things to note While our cottage is only 15 minutes from Interstate 89, Strafford is very rural and off the beaten path! You will drive on majority dirt roads to get here, that can be challenging in mud season (Spring) and Winter. There are no nearby shopping centers, large grocery stores or movie theaters - you will have to travel at least half an hour to get to anything like that. We have a wonderful country store in town with gas and all the basic grocery items you could need, including a meat and fish counter, wine and beer, Vermont products section, produce, small pharmacy section, fishing tackle, and ATM machine, BUT it closes at 6:30pm! THERE IS NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION IN STRAFFORD!!!!!! That means unless you are connected to our wifi, you will not be able to text or make phone calls en route! It means that you will have to make sure that your driving directions are clear and mapped when you get off the highway in Sharon or cross into Vermont from Hanover! Mostly GPS does pretty good sending you in the right direction, but please be sure to consult our specific directions so that you don't get sent down an unmaintained fourth class road. If you get lost, you will have to knock and someone's door and ask directions! People in Vermont are usually pretty friendly about that sort of thing :)
