IN YOUR INITIAL REQUEST TO BOOK 🙏🏼 If you like rustic charm and something a little quirky, you're sure to enjoy staying in our spacious, colourful 150 year old barn that we've enjoyed restoring. Our self-contained barn sits opposite our cottage and is surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the nearby waterfall and brilliant birdsong. It is the perfect place if you're looking for somewhere inspiring to be creative in the downstairs studio or just unwind and relax in nature. A feast of warm hand-mixed colours greets you when you first enter the barn, where to the right you'll find a colourful kitchen cobbled together with lots of natural, untreated wood and re-cycled furniture. The sink unit was constructed from our kids old climbing frame, and the cooker cupboard with the orange formica top was our old sideboard in the cottage opposite. It's all been re-vamped and is now well stocked with lots of essential pots and pans. The bathroom is also on the ground floor and is fitted with a powerful rain shower over a large double-ended steel bath. The colour-changing LED mood lights provide the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing soak. The first floor is a big open-plan living space, full of light and lots of homely cosiness. At one end there is a comfortable chaise/sofa with an added footstool next to the wood burning stove and a romantic dining area at the other end. It's the perfect barn space to close the shutters, set the mood lighting, play a game or unwind with a cosy fire and film after a lovely walk. If you enjoy yoga or meditation, pack your yoga mat as the barn has plenty of floor space and a special, peaceful ambience. In summer it's lovely to do yoga outside where you can zone out with the background relaxing sound of the waterfall and birdsong. Keep an eye out for red squirrels that sometimes dash across the courtyard. In summer there is an outside table and chairs all set up in the courtyard as well as a fire pit to use if you like. Please feel free to take the outdoor cushions from the downstairs room for a relaxing sit by the waterfall. As the nights draw in why not take advantage of the projector and the big gable end wall of the barn. Projection size: approx. 6 x 10 ft. We charge a £10 set up fee (free for 3 nights +) Please feel free to bring your own films, or choose something from our small, but eclectic selection of DVD's 🎬 We don't provide Netflix/Prime etc., but you can connect any device with USB-C sockets via our supplied adaptor. You can also mirror your phone wirelessly, though this can sometimes be a bit glitchy in these parts and doesn't support streaming services (Youtube and BBC iPlayer work OK!) There is a hifi with good speakers either side of the sofa (connecting via Bluetooth or mini-jack)......completing the big screen immersive experience :) The master bedroom on the loft mezzanine level has a comfy king-size bed with an electric blanket for the colder months. You can gaze up at the incredible night sky, while listening/recording the owls screeches 🦉 or maybe daydream with the blue sky and cotton clouds floating past on a summers day. Although the barn is perfectly suited for a couple or single person, we can also comfortably host an extra guest downstairs in the living room and set up a single futon with plush mattress topper for added comfort @ £10 per night. (see photos for how it looks set up). If you are two people wanting to book but not wishing to share a bed, we can set up the futon (below the mezzanine) £10 for the duration. Guest access You will have full and exclusive use of our barn during your stay. You'll also have free access to the courtyard, parking in the driveway (sorry no big SUV's or vans) and the waterfall in the back garden. The river platform next to the South Tyne river at the lower garden is a great place for a wild swim or some fishing. In the summer months when the river level is low, you can paddle and walk along the wonderful river bed, full of rock pools all the way to the ford upstream.....makes for a perfect summertime experience! Other things to note As we've put a lot of effort in to making the barn a special place, we need reassurance that you're going to love our barn as much as we do, so please have a read through everything thoroughly, including house rules and assure us that you are happy with everything 😊 We prefer to host left field, resourceful, friendly, articulate types of people who chime with the vibe of the place. We've hosted artists of many different practices and mediums who have all found the barn and surroundings very inspiring for creativity, sketching and peaceful meditation. Our daughter recently made a unique film here for her GSA portfolio! You must have at least 2 items of good feedback and a profile set up on airbnb. Please take time to write a little introduction explaining who's staying and why you chose the barn . Good communication both before and during your stay are imperative to us, and we hope you too, so while we totally respect your privacy during your stay, we ask all guests to please let us know via the message board that they've checked in ok. (if we're not around) and are happy with everything. We are bike friendly and supportive of cyclists so you're welcome to bring your bikes to store into the end room studio downstairs. If you want to put your bike on the train, the nearest stations to cycle from are Haltwhistle or Penrith (over Hartside Pass) and both make for lovely scenic rides. If you have any queries with anything, don't hesitate to message us after booking and till the end of your stay! We don't supply firewood in the summer months . If you need firewood, it's available from Spar in Alston (6 mins. away by car). Our driveway entrance can't take big SUV's or wide vans so please enquire before booking. You can park on the roadside opposite if necessary.
