Description
The "Foreman house" is a large authentic villa in the heart of Húsavík-town centre, named after the town local community leaders of past. Fully restored and elegantly furnished, mainly used as a family home and rented out as such. We love our house and do not rent it for wild parties but we really welcome guests that respect our old house. The house is rented in whole-exept for the basement, which we use for ourselves (no shared space - private entrance and 260 sq/m for guests.) The space The Foreman house has two main floors, each about 130 sq.m. or 1400 sq.f. (rented house in whole 260 sq.m./2800 sq.f.). On ground floor you will find a large and well equipped kitchen, one bedroom with 2 beds and a roomy and bright living room with a large dining table. One WC on ground floor. The upper floor (1st.) has 4 bedrooms as well as a large TV-sofa corner. One master-bedroom with a great view over the harbour area and Skjálfandi Bay mountains. Two medium size bedreooms and one smaller bedroom. All bedrooms with good windows. The main WC and bathroom with shower and a bath is on upper floor. Guest access The house is rented in whole, with guests having private access to both apartment floors (only leaving out the owner's rooms and storages in basement and garden shed). A large garden with a terrrace with garden furniture comes with the rented house. Other things to note Pets are allowed in the house. So if you are allergic to cats or dogs you might have to take that to consideration. The Foreman house has a long story to tell. It is built in 1898, just a few years before the locals finished building their famous white and green wooden church (found in most Húsavík town photos). The Foreman house name comes from it's inhabitants the last century (Icelandic; Formanns-hús) as it has been occupied from the time it was built by the local chairmen or heads of the village (and later town). The first inhabitant was the local sherif or commisioner, Mr. Steingrímur Jónsson and Mrs. Guðný Jónsdóttir his wife. Later, in early 1900's The Foreman house was occupied by the "formans" of the regional co-operative consumer societies near Husavik, one after another for decades all the way to the end of last century. The house has been renovated throughly the last 20 years in steps. An interesting fact: Of the hundreds of people that have lived at one point or another in the Foreman house, the most famous of The Foreman-house's inhabitants the last century is actually not one of these (male) "formans" but actually a wife of one these. This was one of Icelands' best known national poets, Mrs. Unnur Benediktsdóttir, known by her artist-name "Hulda". Hulda wrote quite a few of Iceland's most heartful romantic lyrics, still sung regularily by musicians. Maybe they should have named the house after this brilliant woman instead of the "foremans" of the past?
