Description

Relax in the comfort and luxury of these former farm buildings, converted to provide spacious modern living for 8 people within 1/3rd of an acre of secluded garden. Ideal for young children or multi-generational stays, the house with its ground floor bedrooms, is just a 150-metre stroll along a private driveway to the Tarka Trail cycle path. The space The accommodation, a former family home, is generously proportioned, and comfortably sleeps 8 people with the option of a ninth person on a sofa bed. As the majority of the accommodation is on the ground floor, it is well suited to people with limited mobility. The U-shaped building, surrounded by lawns, centres on a west-facing courtyard garden, allowing you to catch the afternoon and evening sun, whilst relaxing on the patio. There are two ground floor bedrooms: bedroom one has two single beds, large fitted wardrobes, its own TV and an attractive view over the courtyard garden; bedroom 2 has a double bed, fitted wardrobe, deep chest of drawers and stunning views over the fields. There is one very large bedroom upstairs with 4 single beds and ample storage space for your clothes. Two ground floor bathrooms serve the house: one bathroom has a walk-in shower and the other has a bath with integrated shower. The kitchen / dining area provides a vast array of equipment and the space to savour a stylish meal at the extending oak dining table, which seats 10 people with ease. The kitchen’s equipment includes full height fridge, separate freezer, double oven hob and grill, dishwasher, microwave, Kenwood food processor, slow cooker, a huge range of cooking and baking dishes, and a wall mounted TV. A separate laundry room has a washing machine and dryer. A study / snug leading from the kitchen is equipped with a large desk and a leather sofa bed, which allows for a ninth person to stay. The lounge is a spectacular oak-beamed room with large windows over-looking fields to the river Torridge and the hills beyond. French doors open to the courtyard garden so you can relax in style, watching the sun set over the hills in the distance. And if you get bored of the view, there is still the 50” TV with DVD, a small library of books and a cupboard containing board games. A cot and high chair can be provided if required. The house is equipped with WiFi throughout, underfloor heating and is constructed with the environment in mind, being heavily insulated and assisted for power generation by solar panels. There is an electric vehicle charging point, equipped with a type 2 plug and rated at 6.6kW. Parking is for three or more cars. A garage in front of the house is not included in the rental but can be used at your own risk for storing bicycles, surfboards etc – just talk with the owners, who live in the farmhouse next door and they will be happy to help and advise you on any aspect of your stay. Guest access The whole of the house except for the upstairs bedroom is on the ground floor - there is one step from the kitchen the the back lobby and a further one step from the back lobby to the study The main entrance is accessed from the drive by 4 wide and shallow steps with a handrail for additional safety. However level access is also possible from the owners' drive next door, if this is needed. Other things to note You will enjoy the charms and privacy of the countryside, with wonderful views over fields to the river Torridge, yet you are conveniently located for the historic town of Torrington and the many attractions of North Devon. A 20-minute walk takes you to the centre of Torrington, it is a 20-minute drive to the beach at Westward Ho!, and you are situated right next to the Tarka Trail, the longest traffic-free cycle trail in the country. A bus stop, the popular Puffing Billy Café and a cycle hire shop are just 200m from the house. While you can quickly reach sandy beaches and spectacular coastline, Torrington offers a wide range of traditional shops, the impressive gardens of RHS Rosemoor, glass blowing demonstrations at Dartington Glass, picturesque walks on 365 acres of common land, cinema and theatre at The Plough Arts Centre and much more. If you fancy just staying at home, the gardens around the house are large and safe. Sorry, we cannot accommodate pets.
