Description

Relax at this peaceful, remote, off-the-grid, solar-powered cottage on 5 acres with gorgeous 180 degree views of the Sangre De Cristo mountains! The house is located at 8.8K feet of elevation on Wild Horse Mesa (where wild horses roam around). It has a 1.5 acre fully-fenced in yard for dogs. The land is covered in piñon pines, juniper trees and sage bushes. Even though this home is off-grid, it has everything you need for a relaxing getaway from the hustle of city life! The space ***WINTER NOTE: 4WD/AWD & higher clearance vehicles are highly recommended. It can take the county a few days to plow the dirt roads after snow (they do not plow the driveway so please plan accordingly if there is snow in the forecast). You also might need to wipe snow off the solar panels if it snows during your stay and it doesn't melt quickly (the wiper is located right under the panels).*** You will stay in the queen bed in the loft bedroom, with epic views of the Sangre De Cristo mountains (there is even a little balcony off the bedroom with two chairs and a small table where you can enjoy your coffee). There is also a half bath and closet in the loft. The home has tall ceilings and is overflowing with natural light. It is heated by a propane fireplace that can be controlled by a digital thermostat downstairs. There is a propane powered hot water tank for hot showers. And there is even a washer and dryer. There is a small office/laundry room, and a full bathroom with a bathtub/shower downstairs. There is a full kitchen with a 4 burner propane stove and oven, a fridge/freezer, microwave, large sink, and small coffee maker. The home also comes with Starlink high speed satellite internet, which is great for remote work and streaming shows and movies on the large screen TV in the living room. The large windows and glass doors around the home offer wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and ample natural light during the daytime. Since this home is very remote (11 miles, 25 minutes from the closest town), there are incredible views of the stars at night! The remoteness also means that a 4WD or AWD vehicle with higher clearance is highly recommended (especially after heavy rain or heavy snow, because the road can get muddy in a few spots). There are about 7 miles of dirt roads to get to the house and the last mile isn't as maintained as the first 6. Additionally, it usually takes the county a few days to get out here to plow the roads after snow. There is a 1,200 gallon underground water cistern that we haul water to from a nearby community well, which we will fill before you come. The water is then pumped into the house via a water pump, that you will hear when you have any of the faucets running. The water is filtered through a whole house 3-stage filtration system, and drinking water is filtered through an additional Reverse Osmosis system under the kitchen sink. **Please just be conscious of your water use, and try to conserve the best you can due to the limited supply, and to prevent overflowing the septic system. There is a small lake called Sanchez Reservoir about 2 miles (5-minute drive) away where the wild horses often frequent. San Luis, CO is the closest town for very basic supplies (gas station, post office, dollar general, and a small local market). The house is located about 1 hour from the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado and Red River and Taos in New Mexico (both of which are great for skiing and summer outdoor activities). The closest larger towns for supplies and major grocery stores are Alamosa, CO and Taos, NM. We lived in this house full-time and worked remotely for over 2 years. So it has what you need for a cozy vacation or remote work. Guest access Guests can walk around the land. If you go out the side walking gate (to your right if you are facing the house), you can walk along the paths and dirt road, when the road ends, that's about the end of our land. Please do not disturb the outdoor bathroom that was apart of our old glampground.
