Part of a 500-year-old Venetian monastery in the heart of Splantzia — and still quiet enough to hear the birds in the courtyard at breakfast. The large convent courtyard with its citrus trees out front, your own walled yard with an outdoor shower at the back. 75 sqm, two bedrooms, one with the original stone arch. Everything on one level, not a single step. Old harbour and Koum Kapi town beach: two minutes on foot. The space The apartment Wide double doors lead from the courtyard straight into the kitchen and living room — the big, bright space where you'll cook, eat and settle in. With the doors open, courtyard and living room become one, and that is exactly how this house was meant to work. Behind it, the two bedrooms, each with a 1.60 m double bed and air conditioning. One has a large stone arch, a typical Old Town feature we deliberately brought back to light. Both bedrooms open onto the back courtyard. There is one bathroom with a level-access shower. The two courtyards In front of the house lies the large courtyard of the old convent garden, under citrus trees and bougainvillea. You share this one with Home 2 next door. It is big enough that each apartment has its own corner with a table and seating — and lovely enough that evenings there often turn into shared ones. The courtyard is enclosed, with a gate onto the lane; children can play outside without anyone having to follow them around. Behind the house lies your own yard, on ground level and yours alone: an outdoor shower, a wide bench for sitting or lying down, shade in the afternoon. After the beach, showering under an open sky is exactly right. The finest room in this house is outdoors. You'll notice on the first morning. Step-free — and what that actually means Access is completely step-free from the lane right through to the living area, without a single threshold. The entrance door is 82 cm wide. For guests with a walking frame or limited mobility, and for anyone travelling with a pushchair, the apartment works very well. For wheelchair users it is only partly suitable, and we would rather say so upfront: the bedroom and bathroom doors are 70 cm wide, and the shower access measures 50 cm. If you are unsure whether that works for you, just write to us — we are happy to measure again and send photos. The three houses around the convent garden Home 1, Home 2 and Home 4 all frame the same former convent garden. Home 1 and Home 2 share the large front courtyard; Home 4 has its own walled yard, connected by an inner gate, so you can move between all three without stepping onto the street. If you are travelling as a larger group or as a family across generations, you can book all three together: up to 14 guests, with the garden as your shared living room. Just write to us and we'll line up the dates. Home 2 has two bedrooms each with its own bathroom — good for two couples or a family with older children. Home 4 is a two-storey house with an open fireplace, room for six, and the one courtyard nobody else uses. In winter Winter in Chania feels like spring in central Europe. The apartment is heated, the town belongs to the locals again, and we offer good monthly rates for longer stays. If you want to write, work or simply arrive somewhere properly — this is the season for it. Guest access The whole apartment is yours, along with your own back courtyard and its outdoor shower. The front convent courtyard you share with Home 2; each apartment has its own corner there. Your own entrance sits on a quiet Old Town lane and leads first into the courtyard, closed off from the street by a gate. Despite the central location the streets around stay residential and calm; these are neighbours, not hotels. Other things to note – We welcome you in person. If you arrive late, the key safe lets you in at any hour. – A small welcome pack is waiting for you: water, wine, biscuits and some fruit. – Electricity, water, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, heating and all local taxes are included. – Bed linen, bath towels and beach towels are provided. – You can add a mid-stay clean with fresh linen at any time — €30 per clean. From the third week of your stay, a weekly clean is required. – Early check-in and late check-out are possible on request, subject to the calendar. – Smoking outdoors in the courtyards only.
