Yogenan is an old private house that was relocated from a farm in Echigo (Niigata Prefecture) to Shinshu (Nagano Prefecture) and renovated. In the house with a large roof and thick Chonnabari pillars that have endured the weight of the snow for more than 150 years, you can experience Japanese traditions with tatami mats, sliding doors, shoji, wooden floors, a sunken hearth, and a cypress bath. We also offer hands-on classes in traditional Japanese foods (such as agar-agar) and home cooking (optional). Why not get away from the convenience of city life and try an unusual, relaxed country life? Origin of the name 　The name of the inn, "Kan-an", comes from the name of my ancestor, "Kan-an", who was a Buddhist monk. I heard that this place was a temple house during the Edo period. At Yogen-an, we have prepared a place to learn about Japanese food while looking back on the days of the temple. The Location Yogenan is located in Shiojiri City, almost in the middle of Nagano Prefecture, at an altitude of 850 meters, just south of the Nakatsuna Pass on the Nakatsuna Mountain Range. It is close to National Route 153, making it easy to find. This area is full of quiet rural scenery, and long ago, in the Heian period, it appeared in the tale of Seishi Gishin's "Pillow Book" as "Tanome-no-Sato". It is conveniently located for getting to Matsumoto Castle, Kamikochi, Lake Suwa, Narai-juku, and the Komagatake Senjo-shiki.
