Description

Whether business or pleasure, you're invited to visit "The Little Yellow House." This country cottage is located 30 minutes south of East Carolina University and within 1 1/2 hours of Atlantic Beach. Nestled in the cozy confines of eastern North Carolina, this cozy little home sits on an acre of open land with occassional citings of deer, beaver, owls and hawks. The perfect little getaway for a nice relaxing vacation or the traveling professional visiting the Greenville area. The space Our space is a quaint and cozy little home originally built in the 1950's by my father. When renovating the home, an elderly lady stopped by and inquired as to what was so special about the little old house. She appeared distraught as she asked about the house and why it was getting so much of our attention. After careful thought, I shared with her how the house represented a part of the history of eastern North Carolina and that more importantly it represented a part of my family history. The lady drove off after our brief chat but her question nagged me days, weeks and months later. This led to my writing of the soon to be released book, "The Little Yellow House" which addresses the question asked by the strange lady who asked what was so special about the little old house. In the book I address the many memories that the house provides for me and share much of the history of the home and how it was once a part of my grandfather's farm and a part of my family's legacy. You're invited to come out to visit "The Little Yellow House" and experience a piece of history while enjoying the solitude of our peaceful little sanctuary . Restored in 2016, "The Little Yellow House" was completely renovated maintaining many of its original architectural features and delightful charm. The initial floor plan was used to maintain the historic nature of the home. However, the wall between the original kitchen and living room has now been replaced with a beautiful bar with pendant lights hanging above for dining. The bar seats four adults and can be used not only for dining but also for board games and TV viewing. The cottage includes a fully furnished kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, a four-burner stovetop, electric blender, with microwave, a toaster-oven and crockpot, along with a traditional coffee-maker (not Keurig). The kitchen comes fully equipped with pots, pans, glasses and utensils. In addition, we will provide coffee and tea for at least the first morning of your visit. However, there is no dishwasher. The living room space is part of an open floor plan to the kitchen area, with a large picture window, allowing for plenty of early morning sunlight. It includes a ceiling fan, fireplace with marble hearth (not available for use by guest), a cozy futon with a flat screen TV where you can relax and unwind. The large flatscreen TV comes with a DVD player for your viewing pleasure. There is no cable TV. However, a HDMI port is available to use if you have a device to plug in. The bedroom has enough space to relax and unwind privately or to simply stretch out on the full-size bed and pass the time. There is a closet with shelves stocked with bed linen and extra pillows. An additional clothes rack is included. Also available for your enjoyment is a 32" flatscreen TV and DVD player in the living room. There is a 19" flatscreen in the bedroom along with a Philips stereo CD sound system. Again, there is no regular cable TV but an HDMI port is also available to use if you have a plug and play device. There is one full bathroom which includes the tub and shower along with a beautiful lavatory. The beach themed bath also includes a skylight where the moon can be seen passing over in the night sky. For your convenience, towels will be provided in abundance along with some bathroom amenities and a first aid kit. There is a washer and dryer available for guests staying for more than 5 days. For the business traveler an iron and ironing board are available. The bar counter is the perfect setup so that you can spread out with your Ipad or laptop to take care of any business. The home sits on a one-acre lot that includes a grapevine that provides delicious muscodine grapes in August and September. A deck is located on the back of the house and sits beneath a huge oak tree that provides wonderful shade during those lazy summer evenings. A portion of the backyard is fenced in for your privacy and includes an outdoor grill and basketball goal for anyone interested in getting a little exercise during their stay. For safety reasons, the outdoor firepits are off limits. Guest access The house sits on one acre of land. However, we ask that all guests restrict themselves to the enclosed backyard and the immediate vicinity around the house. Feel free to enjoy the shade from the majestic oak tree just to the right of the house. Other things to note The washer and dryer are reserved for long term guests. Fireplace and fire pit usage is off limits at this time of the year. A lock box is provided for self check in. So please be careful with your keys.
