The lookout tower of the Soestpolder nature reserve (7.1 km) offers a magnificent view over the lake. Nearby you will find the lake De Leijen (8.8 km), this area was created by peat excavations and therefore shallow in many places. A beautiful area for canoeing. Close by are nature reserves such as the Bûtenfjild with the Ottema-Wiersma reserve (5.7 km) and De Alde Feanen in Earnewoude (12 km). You can also enjoy a walk and then a meal or a drink at Brasserie Om de Dobben (3 km). Numerous events are organized throughout the year in Friesland, and there are also several museums. A stone's throw away you will find the Observeum (public observatory and regional museum) (400 m). Scherjon's clog factory and museum is located next to the fierljep center (2.3 km). If you are interested in the history of the Fryske Wâlden, then the museum de Sûkerei (14 km) and open-air museum De Spitkeet (14 km) are recommended. For young and old, you can visit Aventoer Amusement Park (2.1 km) or Sanjes Safari Play and Animal Park (7.3 km). Park Vijversburg in Tytsjerk (7.1 km), nominated for the architecture prize, with beautifully landscaped gardens and parks is worth visiting. Then, in addition to Leeuwarden, visit the Tegeltjesbrug (8.2 km) and travel to Dokkum (18 km) where you will find the turning point and can get an impression of the cozy city center with nice boutiques and restaurants. You can also visit Zwartkruis Water Park (7.1 km) and Burgumermeer Holiday Park (9.7 km). For optimal peace and quiet, you do not have to travel far. Thermen & Beauty Leeuwerikhoeve is only 2.5 km away. Other things to note "Tuskendiken: the poor neighborhood with golden soil." Tuskendiken, now a paved road, was originally a dirt road, a "hollow road" worn out in the landscape. Part of the landscape was excavated in the past, the yellow sand present in the ground was worth gold. These sand excavations are still visible in the difference in height of the landscape. At Tuskendiken, you will find, among other things, the wâldhúskes characteristic of the Frisian Wouden and the famous sandstone housing law houses. From the house, you have a view of the place where the notorious Barracks used to stand, here lived the "dregs" of Burgum. This piece of history is no longer visible today, you are now looking at a meadow, surrounded by trees, where with a little luck sheep are grazing. The area can be characterized as a coulisse landscape, with beautiful old wooden walls. The accommodation is located almost directly on the forest and in the meadows around pastures, in addition to sheep, also horses.
