Kathkuni is a vernacular architectural style of Himachal Pradesh, which is made with interlocking timber beams and stone. It uses no nails or masonry and is inherently earthquake resistant because of the use of tried and tested age old vernacular techniques of wood joinery. We have restored and upscaled the house based on modern lifestyle needs with the help of local rural craftspeople. Materials used were mostly wood, stone, and mud but also innovative sustainable natural and modern materials. 90% building material used in the restoration process is locally sourced and recycled from old houses and forest waste. Outside your door there are large open common areas in the premise, INCLUDING: COURTYARD LAWN: A large grassy open-space to chill and relax on the front of the building. THE CAFE: A beautiful dining area/cafe done in recycled waste-wood and stones. The cafe features a fire place and wood fire pizza oven cum grill. Our menu is based on locally sourced and homegrown organic ingredients and we serve Local, Italian and Asian cuisines SUN DECK: There is a sunset facing sun deck with relaxed reclined chairs and a 2 seater swing. GARDENS: There are beautifully maintained flower gardens and organic vegetable gardens on the premise. Most of our vegetables and herbs are home grown. It's a place for postmodern travellers looking for a unique and authentic cultural/lifestyle experience different from routine life. This listing is a part of a larger Sustainable Tourism Project.
