We recommend visiting the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce site for events. Retreat is located on property that was once part of an 18th century plantation. Come recharge and relax at this tranquil location. Enjoy a good nights’ sleep, then we encourage you to start your day off drinking coffee on the back deck or front porch, while being serenaded by several different species of birds, watch the squirrels and their silly antics and enjoy the slowed down country life. There are several nearby places to launch kayaks and boats in the area. Bluestone is closest, about 1 1/2 miles away-Occoneechee Park-3 miles. You can make arrangements for a local massage; private kayak lessons and tour or, about 45 minutes away, book an afternoon tea. Depending on time of year, car shows in Oxford and car racing in South Boston, either one, about 30 minutes away. Virginia Raceway in Alton, is approximately 50 miles away. After your day on the lake or exploring the area, head back for showers, kick back and relax, or head out to one of the local breweries, wineries, restaurants or other festivals/events that might be going on. Afterwards, play games on the deck, dining room, or sit outside, enjoy some star gazing and reflect on your day. If you desire to book both bedrooms, please advise and we will adjust rate. Guests have private shared access to the hall bathroom on first floor, adjacent to their rooms. You also will have access to front porch, large back deck, living room, dining room, refreshment area with large selection of coffee, teas and flavored syrups. Located approximately 3 miles from downtown. The community is great for walking in wooded setting, with many birds, deer, hummingbirds, wild turkeys and other wildlife. There is a great spot in our neighborhood on the water to watch the sun set a short drive from the home. On the weekends, April-October, the 18th century plantation is open for tours. Clarksville is approximately one hour north of Durham. Oxford, NC, South Hill and South Boston, VA, each 35 minutes away. Danville and Alton, VA are an hour away. Several quaint shops and eateries downtown. Occoneechee State Park is only 3 miles away with many trails for hiking and cycling; a splash water area; boat launch and limited boats can be rented. Home and property are pet, smoke and drug free. It is not handicapped accessible, with three steps coming in to house and 15 steps to second floor. We have two small coolers to take out during the day as you explore the area. Two full shelves in the refrigerator set aside for you and your guests. Driveway is concrete with parking for 6 vehicles, with additional parking on street. A water faucet and hose at driveway to rinse off your kayak or stand up boards and has access to 110 outlet. At night, enjoy looking at the stars or take 45 minute drive to Staunton River Park, one of the National Dark Sky parks.
