Description

Our beautiful, ancient, spacious house is well positioned within the centre of the charming Cotswold market town of Witney, with easy access to the Cotswolds countryside and villages, Oxford, London and. Stratford Upon Avon. It is full of beams and books, with plenty of space to relax and spend time together. It is cosy in winter and cool in summer. There is something for everyone with its two four poster beds, a jacuzzi bath and a steam room as well as an old rocking horse and acrobatic swing. The space Our 5 bedroom house was built in 1769 ( main section ) and 1650 ( back section). It combines character with modern amenities. There are a lot of steps! The ground floor has an open plan kitchen and dining area with a log burner. The cosy ‘ snug’ which seats 8 is off this room. There is also a downstairs toilet and utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer . There is a back door allowing easy access to the car and our small outdoor area perfect for a coffee in the sunshine ( bistro outdoor table and chairs). On the first floor ( at three different levels) are two sets of bedrooms. Firstly the ‘West Wing’ - two rooms with a shared modern en suite with shower. One has a king sized four poster bed and a view onto the delightful street. The other has a single bed with an extra mattress that can be pulled out to make a super king ( as a tight squeeze) or a second single on the floor. Secondly the ‘ Crazy Kingdom’ which has a peaceful single room at ground level, next door is a play area with a rocking horse and an acrobatic swing ( please note there is a steep spiral staircase and this room is not suitable for toddlers to be unsupervised in). Up the stairs on the mezzanine are two full size single beds and a large range of children’s books. Off the play area is a small modern bathroom with shower. Also on the first floor is our glorious drawing room, with three big windows overlooking the street and filling it with light. The room is full of books and furnished with Chesterfields. On the top floor ( up some open sided steps) there is the master suite- a large airy bedroom ,full of beams, with views to the front and back of the house across the rooftops of Witney to the church spire in the distance. This room has a magnificent, carved oak, king sized four poster bed. Next door there is a large family bathroom with a long jacuzzi bath and a steam room shower for two. On this floor there is also a dedicated office space with desk and Ethernet connection. Guest access This is a lived in home, that we let out occasionally. All areas described will be accessible . Other things to note Please note that certain areas of our house have potential hazards for unsupervised young children ( small section of unrailed stair case and a steep spiral staircase) . There are doors blocking access to all these areas- as the stairway is entered by a door from the kitchen . Also the different levels and many steps might make it unsuitable for someone with mobility difficulties. There are handrails provided on all sections of stairs except to the top floor.
