Other things to note Our neighborhood is called Canhas which is a part of Ponta Do Sol town. It is spread over hills so visitors need a car to move easily around. There is a nice local restaurant in 600 meters distance and few small stores. Further down towards the beach and the central area of Ponta do Sol you will find a few charming cafes near the beach and the famous waterfall which ends on the mountain road. Also a very photogenic system of antique stone roads and tunnel winding along the coastal mountain rocks. People in the area are very peaceful and welcoming, big part of the community are returning immigrants whose ancestors left Madeira for new opportunities in latin america or south africa, and after building their fortune there, their children returned to settle back in their historical home few decades back, creating a lovely mix of cultures and openness towards other people.
