A charming art-packed 2 bedroom home in Snow Creek Village, close to Palm Springs (15 minutes to downtown) with the stunning beauty of the San Jacinto Mountains and the Pacific Crest Trail at your back door. This is a special long-term retreat for creatives, scientists, bird lovers, hikers, writers, readers or anyone who enjoys solitude, flora, and fauna. This is a very private community so please be quiet and don't entertain guests to be considerate of nature and neighbors. The 850 sq. ft. ranch style home has been transformed into an artful haven. Every detail has been lovingly attended to with lots of delightful touches. The backyard view literally can't be beat! The house has a main bedroom with a queen bed, dresser, closet and twin futon couch; a smaller bedroom with a full-sized bed, dresser and closet; and a full bathroom with a tub and shower. In the living room there is a gorgeous fireplace, games, and a record player, a writing desk, as well as a projector and screen to play movies. There is no TV, but there is WiFi. It's a great space for a couple to stay and the perfect place to enjoy the offerings of Palm Springs during the day and get back to the surrounding beauty at night. It is a casual and cosy place to play cards, read, make food and stargaze. Well behaved dogs are allowed but there is no fenced-in yard and dogs must be walked on leash around the village for the safety of your dog due to wildlife being present. The backyard is frequented daily by quail, bunnies, coyotes, butterflies, and a plethora of feathered friends, especially hummingbirds. This property is my own getaway as well, so it will have things of mine in the space within reason. The place has the mark of my personality in it, and is supplied with art, books and games that I want people to enjoy. Feel free to use any condiments, tea and coffee, and anything in the kitchen cupboards. My long-term renters, Madeleine and Aleksandar, are also the property caretakers. They live in the detached Casita apartment next door. They are very respectful of your space and quiet, and will also be there when they are not travelling in case you need anything. They will be accessing their place through the shared walkway. We have 2 bicycles for your use if you so desire. Make yourself at home! And feel free to reach out with any and all questions! SNOW CREEK VILLAGE. This private mountain enclave of 39 eclectic homes is one of the Coachella Valley's most unique and scenic neighborhoods. Most of the homes were built as weekend retreats for trout fishing long ago in the clear waters of Falls Creek and Snow Creek. It is a special place, a real gem at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains. There is a good article about it in the Desert Sun. "Peek into secluded desert community snow creek" - look this up! HUELL HOWSER'S CALIFORNIA'S GOLD VISITS SNOW CREEK - 1 hour video tour includes Indian Shaman's Cave, Los Osos Falls, Olive Groves and Snow Creek Village. Also available through the Palm Springs Historical Society. Look it up! It's priceless. PACIFIC CREST TRAIL. Once you have arrived at the house, if you want to walk to the PCT (there is no parking at the trailhead so its best to leave from here). Turn right, east, and follow the road around the bend to the left on Cottonwood, turn right on Hicks and then left on Falls Creek Road. Falls Creek road takes you along the Eastside of the Village slightly downhill until you hit the trailhead on your right, marked with yellow pylon. It’s a paved road that will bend back up South towards San Jacinto for about a mile, where it meets the trailhead on the right, marked by a water fountain. Head up the mountain and into amazing rock formations and dramatic, elevated views of the San Gorgonio Pass. It’s a tough uphill climb in places that’s worth every effort. This is the jewel in the crown of America's scenic trails spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through 3 western states and 5 California state parks. It climbs the backbone of the San Jacinto Mountains through the Snow Creek area where it reaches its highest point shortly before descending to its lowest beneath Interstate 10 in the broad San Gorgonio Pass. OLIVE GROVES Rustic, century-old olive groves flank narrow serpentine Snow Creek Road entering OASIS DE LOS OSOS WETLANDS AREA and LOS OSOS FALLS This peaceful water canyon which supports rare plants and a fragile ecosystem is privately owned and maintained as a research facility by the University of California. Numerous archeological sites and stone foundations near Los Osos Creek give mute testimony to this canyon's early inhabitants. The Wanakik Indians called this canyon home before it was homesteaded in 1929 by Lucy and Denver Lamb. A ruin of their stream side home remains. Visitation is by permission INDIAN CAVES, PETROGLYPHS AND BEDROCK MORTARS A 20 min. walk from Palm House to the Snow Creek Rock Shelter, one of the Palm Springs area's most spectacular and culturally significant geologic wonders, the evidence of ancient life at Snow Creek. A copy of J.W. Michel’s The Snow Creek Rock Shelter Site (RIV-210) excavation, UCLA 1964 is available at Palm House. MOONLIGHT IN SNOW CANYON The high wall of mountains that surrounds Snow Creek also protects it from outside sources of artificial light. In the unadulterated darkness, night skies are true and brilliant. Our tall mountains seem to magnify moonlight on the rocky landscape. D’ANGELO REVOLVING ALUMINUM HOUSE (1962) Designed by Floyd D’Angelo and engineer Henry Conrey to rotate on a motorized pole for protection from the sun and to have different mountain views. Resembles a flying saucer on a pole. The current owner restored the house so that it once again revolves. Beatle George Harrison was rumored to have retreated to the 750 sq. ft. house in the 1960s. The D’Angelo house is just west of Palm House on Snow Creek Road. The winds out here can be super strong, so bring your earplugs unless you like the sound of big nature! This is only a long-term rental property so no short term rentals are possible. Thank you for respecting the village!
