Description

About this space Worthy Manor is a romantic and utterly peaceful 16C coastal manor house situated on the South West Coast Path. So simply relax and enjoy all that Worthy has to offer - the open fires, the sea views, the artworks, the library, the gardens ; plus, a 5 minute walk through the fields, the unique harbour of Porlock Weir, with its famous Bottom Ship pub, hotel, galleries and eateries where breakfast/supper can be taken overlooking the harbour. The space In 1835 Ada Lovelace, daughter of the ‘mad, bad and dangerous to know’, Romantic poet, Lord Byron married the future Earl of Lovelace and the couple honeymooned at Worthy Manor and Porlock Weir was to become their home. In 1842 Ada, not only a celebrated beauty but also a brilliant mathematician, published what has now come to be widely accepted as the world’s first computer programme and she is now recognised as one of the true pioneers of modern-day computing. Thus the Lovelace Suite is named in her honour. Comprising the guest wing of the Manor, the Lovelace Suite offers absolute privacy. Accessed by way of a discreet door [ lockable] in the Dining Hall, on entering the suite guests ascend a private spiral staircase (look out for the Priests Hole on the left) to the first floor where they will find the principal bedroom, a secondary bedroom, a bathroom and a shower-room. Both bedrooms have sea views. With its with its vaulted ceiling, in- room roll top bath (and separate WC,) sea views on three sides and original artworks, the principal bedroom it is a feast for the eyes. In the summer airy and sunlit; in the winter, the woodburner lit, warm and cosy. And as you lie in the candlelit bath, or snug in the 4 poster bed, the fire lit, a glass of good something to hand and, if you like, a favourite film on the box (if you have a particular favourite ask and we will do our best to add it to the film library), then the thought may occur, that there is nowhere but nowhere that you’d rather be, and no-one but no-one you would rather be with…. The secondary bedroom also enjoys sea views, has a queen size double bed, TV, and is adjacent to the private bathroom and shower-room. This room is only available to Lovelace guests needing a second bedroom eg those with children or two couples. There is an additional use of second bedroom one off cost of £55 ( per booking) to cover the additional costs of using the second bedroom ( Cleaning, heating etc). This is payable in cash upon arrival. In addition to the facilities within the principal bedroom the suite is served by an additional private bathroom [ bath with hand shower and loo] and shower-room [ shower and loo]. The Lovelace Suite offers absolute privacy throughout. Guest access In addition to the private suite, guests enjoy the use of the downstairs Library, and Dining Hall. The wood panelled drawing room is also available for the exclusive use of guests whenever the door from the dining hall to the room is open. Other things to note Tea and coffee making facilities and bottled water are provided within the suite. When the host is at home, you can enjoy a romantic candlelit, fireside continental breakfast ( see menu in photos section) in the 16C dining hall at a cost of £13.95 pp. ( cash only ). Alternatively, full English breakfast is available at the Bottom Ship [ 0730-1000 ] and Porlock Weir Hotel [0800-1000], both a delightful 6-7 minutes walk or 2 minutes by car. You will find an extensive evening menu in the suite. All meals are taken by candlelight in front of the fire in the the dining hall. This is only available by arrangement when the host is at home.
