Sleep with the wildlife of Dartmoor in an open sided cabin with curtains, wood burner, Artic bedding & electric blankets overlooking a spring fed swimming pond into ancient woodland frequented by wildlife. You will hear more horses than cars on the distant mossy lane. There's .3 Km of stream, ponds, waterfalls & bridges, birds from Raptors to Wrens. .8 Km of walks, views across the valley, a huge variety of gardens and Tin Mining Archaeology. Your hosts live out of sight down the valley. The space This unique cabin has a wood burner, super king or twin beds. Artic bedding, electric blankets, 4 hot water bottles and throws. A kitchenette, with a microwave, small fridge, sink, double gas camping hob with grill, kettle and toaster. It is tastefully decorated with antiques. Attached is a private hot shower, composting toilet, fire pit. Plenty of towels. The open side can be closed with waterproof curtains for extra snugness or you can lay in bed & look into totally private woodland, watch the bird feeders, squirrels or if you're lucky wild deer. Guest access Feel free to roam all 6 acres. A stream cascades down the whole valley with waterfalls when Dartmoor gets lots of rain. There is a PERIMETER WALK and A GIN AND TONIC PLATFORM with views over the valley. There are multiple garden areas that have been opened under the NATIONAL GARDEN SCHEME to raise thousands of pounds for charity. Our guests have private access to them all. There is a GARDEN OF REFLECTION for meditation, a ROSE GARDEN with GAZEBO, SECRET GARDEN and STONE CIRCLE. The cabin is next to the GEOMETRIC GARDEN, with it's flower displays. There's a PERGOLA WALK, TREE TOP WALK, FOLLY, DRAW BRIDGE, FAIRY GARDEN, WILLOW STRUCTURE and WISHING WELL. The TIN MINING ARCHAEOLOGY includes WHEEL PIT, BUDDLE, LEAT, ADIT and GEAR PIT. Take a look back in time alone or with a free guided tour our the archaeology, explaining how tin and copper were mined in the past. Further back in time there are 🌴 tree ferns, watch out for dinosaurs 🦖 and other Jurassic species such as Ginkgo biloba and Equisetum. In the cabin a folder contains a map of the garden. Other things to note A 35 minute country walk from Ashburton and the famous Ashburton Cookery School; details of local walks, points of interest, pubs and restaurants are available in the cabin. The composting toilet and hot shower are 3 steps from the cabin in a separate tent. Unlimited wood supplied free for the wood burner and fire pits. The bird life is attracted by peanut feeders The night sky has virtually no light pollution. The hot tub is wonderful. That's just my opinion! It has various water jets for a fabulous massage and ambient lighting. It uses chlorine normally, bromine is available on request. Add a glass of wine and watch the wildlife. We recently had an aerial display from 3 buzzards. Please keep dogs on a lead in the gardens, but they can run free in the perimeter walk and meadows when there are no sheep. No Smoking in the cabin, decking or on the astro turf please.
