Welcome to our shady, peaceful eco-cottage, just a short walk from Watamu's stunning beaches and mangroves. Delight in the gorgeous pool and garden lounge, enjoy a sundowner on our breezy treehouse yoga deck or even try your hand on our climbing wall! A unique and tranquil getaway, perfect for nature-loving couples, digital nomads or the whole family. The treasure of Salama House is our distinctive Balinese-style garden lounge and airy treehouse yoga deck overlooking a sparkling pool set among lush plants. We've installed a gorgeous outdoor shower and even built Watamu's only climbing wall for you to enjoy. So, take a refreshing swim, read your favourite book, wake up to sunrise yoga or relax with a breezy sundowner. You'll also love our commitment to nature; we're fully solar-powered, harvest our precious rainwater, recycle and compost all our food waste. You'll be right at home in the cottage. It comes tastefully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing stay; comfy patio and lounge, fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and thoughtful homely touches, such as a picnic hamper, tree swing, books and board games. For those who cant avoid it, we're fully set up for remote working, complete with an office, wide-screen monitor, extension cables and fast WiFi throughout. You'll quickly discover that we've been adopted by three delightful kittens (so you'll need to love pets!). And you'll also find plenty of parking, a safe neighbourhood and wonderful neighbours. It will feel a real home (or office) away from home. Karibu! The entire cottage, garden and pool area and one-acre plot will be yours to enjoy! You'll be well looked after by our housekeeper Nora and her son Arnold (who manages the pool and garden). We'll also be available to contact if there's anything else you need. Welcome to one of East Africa's loveliest beach towns... we love the place for its chilled vibe and idyllic location with everything you need to work and play! For those who want to enjoy the beach, we're just minutes from the lovely South Watamu beach. It's one of Kenya's finest beaches for swimming, snorkelling, kitesurfing, paddle boarding or just building sand castles. Alternatively, head to the jewel of nearby Mida Creek, perhaps for a sunset dhow cruise, a magical float through the mangroves, or early morning paddleboard. If you want a break from the water, then take in sunset yoga, evening paddleball or a movie night under the stars at Temple Point. You're not far from some fabulous cafes (head to the women-run F Cafe for omelettes and chapati, Non-Solo for it's famous gelato or Naturalamente Panne's for yummy pastries.) For meals out, you have loads of wonderful options, with incredible pizza at Sunset Beach and Viziwa, sundowners at Pilli Pan, fresh seafood at Kobe, and the iconic Lichthouse for sunset drinks and tasty kebabs on the deck. In short, you're spoiled for choice! Leave the car at home! You've lots of options for exploring Watamu that are easy on your wallet and friendly for the planet... Walking is a delight in the cool of the morning and evening, and you're only 10 minutes from the beaches, mangroves and some lovely cafes. The easiest way to get around town is just to flag down a boda (motorbike taxi) or tuk tuk (3-wheeled scooter) and negotiate a price to wherever you need to go. If you're heading further afield, we can help you with recommendations for trusted taxi drivers, snorkelling boats, dhow cruise captains and eco-safari operators. And, if you're up for it, we can also help you rent your own bicycle, motorbike or tuk-tuk - just let us know! Salama House is special; it's serene and private, nestled amongst one acre of palm trees and leafy trees. You'll also find a workshop and garage on the plot which is where we park our car and store some of our things. Here's a couple of extra things to note: 1. We don't allow pets (as they might scare the kitties) 2. Our showers don't use hot water (Watamu is very warm!) 3. The main and guest bedrooms have A/C at a small extra fee 4. The office / single bedroom does not have A/C but does have ceiling and floor fans to ensure you stay cool. 5. Please use the climbing wall responsibly. We cannot be held liable for any accidents or injuries. Finally, we're very happy to provide recommendations to help you make the most of your stay. If you need a chef, safari guide, yoga teacher or dhow captain, we can put you in touch with all the right people!
