The Sacred Cedar, near Chapel Hill & UNC

The Sacred Cedar is a charming new addition to our 1890's farmhouse located in Chatham County, tucked amongst the beautiful cedar trees. We offer a quiet retreat while being just a few miles from UNC and a mile from Fearrington Village. Our space is filled with folk art representing the area and has a truly unique flare. A few stand out perks include a pickleball court, record player, garden tub, fire pit, books and a private front porch with great forest views. We look forward to hosting you! The space Enjoy the ambiance of a beautiful studio filled with folk art, books, music, antiques and comfy surroundings. From the small corner unit in the kitchen filled with vintage Kantha fabric pillows, to the charming antique pine cupboard, you are sure to feel the vibe. Fix breakfast and enjoy sitting at our vintage metal top table or dine out on the private porch overlooking the woods. Our farmhouse was built in 1890 and the bedroom and living room are original to the house, whereas the kitchen and bathroom are part of the new addition which includes the porch. A shared patio space has a fire pit for you to enjoy a cozy evening under the twinkling lights and cedar trees. Take a leisurely stroll around the back of the studio and you’ll find our lovely water pond complete with a gurgling waterfall, goldfish and Ducky, our large Koi. Listen to the calming sounds of the water, our melodic frogs and maybe even receive a visit from Billy, our resident dog. Most of the art pieces we have on display are all created by local artists and are described in our Guidebook. The thing that will most likely catch your eye is our amazing Wild Women Door, created by an artist out of Georgia. The antique arched windows in the bedroom came from an estate in Greensboro, so lovely with their old glass. The beautiful armoire in the bedroom dates back to late 1700’s and is from France. I have included a large selection of books I’ve collected over the years for your reading enjoyment as well as some records and cds to listen to. We are also just a few miles from Fearrington Village, a lovely venue for weddings, retreats, and events. Our guestbook offers a wide variety of nearby destinations including Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Raleigh, Durham, and—for a fun country trip—Saxapahaw. We offer reduced rates during the week so why not extend your getaway for an extra day or two 🙂 We look forward to your visit and hope you consider this your home away from home! Guest access You have a private entrance from the porch which takes you into the kitchen. There is a bathroom off the kitchen which includes a full bath and separate shower. The other doorway leads to a bedroom and then through a sliding door you enter a living room. Other things to note PICKLEBALL We have a Pickleball Court that is available to you any time. Vance, your host, is a Certified Pro-Coach and National and State Champion so contact him if you would like to schedule him for a lesson. If available, he could also play pickleball with you and tell you a bit about the rules. We also have paddles and balls if you need them. Close to us are many free open pickleball locations to play as well. SOUND HEALING SESSIONS Our daughter, Maia, lives next door and is a sound and energy healing practitioner, embodied voice coach, and musician. She offers 1:1 sound healing sessions and small group sound baths in her home during the week and on weekends. Maia also offers public sound baths and workshops in the surrounding area. Her work weaves together sound, voice, movement, and energy, supporting individuals as they reconnect to themselves and embrace transformation. Contact Joyce for more information if you’d like a session from Maia during your visit. CO-CREATIVE ASTROLOGY Our other daughter, Evan, lives in the small house behind us. They offer 1:1 astrology sessions, classes, and more as tools to support self growth, spiritual awakening, and deepened compassion for self. Their intent is to guide clients into a more loving, alive, and collaborative experience with the universe no matter what system or tool is used to get there.
