Ocean & National Park Views +142 miles of trails, just minutes to San Francisco
Enjoy 142 miles of hike & bike trails in 82,000 acres of coastal National Park outside your front door! Mod & minimal ridgetop perch in private neighborhood adjacent the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, just minutes to the Sausalito Waterfront and the vibrant city life of San Francisco. Designed to maximize the spectacular setting, expansive glass walls provide breathtaking views of the Marin Headlands and the Pacific Ocean & cocoon you in nature. Biophilic, fully appointed, lux & private. The space Welcome to Sausalito Skylounge! A very private oasis surrounded by natural beauty yet close to all the action. An architectural nod to a founder of the midcentury Bay Modern style (who built the award-winning primary residence as his own) and intentionally designed to blend with the natural setting to provide a close connection to nature, Skylounge is minimal, mod, airy, and biophilic. LIVING SPACE Enter the space from the L-shaped deck to an open living and kitchen area where you will be enveloped in nature by three sides of near wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, double-paned windows framing the views and bringing the outside in— while maintaining peaceful quiet. Find comfortable seating options and a coffee table that stores extra blankets & pillows to cozy up with the books on the SF Bay Area's history, art, and culture that are waiting for you. Note the custom-designed dining table that wraps around the back of the curved sofa and doubles as another great place to set a beverage & snack while lounging on the couch. Use the remote to set the heat or AC to whatever temperature is comfortable for you. In addition to highlighting the natural setting, the space was designed to maximize the sense of spaciousness within the 635 sq ft residence. The fully appointed open kitchen has everything you need for homecooked meals, including a hidden 4-function oven, built-in cooktop, and dishwasher. Or opt for “room service” via several apps that deliver from multiple area restaurants. Wash even the largest pots (Dungeness crab season, anyone?) in the deep sink, which has a pull-down faucet and built-in water purifier. Enjoy your libations and meals with the views, on cushioned tulip swivel chairs at the petite dining table for two. Look through the generous open passage between the workspace and bathroom to views of the treetops out the bedroom windows, enhancing your sense of spaciousness and feeling of being cocooned by nature. In the evenings, set the mood by calibrating the dimmable warm amber wall sconces and under cabinet lighting to your liking, turn on the battery-operated candles, queue your favorite playlist to the bluetooth speakers, and snuggle up by the fire. BEDROOM—Split king bed can be converted to two twins on request. Enjoy Pacific Ocean & Marin Headlands views from the king bed with Dream Cloud mattress, along with your favorite streaming subscriptions on the 50” Smart TV (no cable) with a bespoke cover to hide it away when not in use. Lower the blackout shades and close the extra large custom pocket door for movie night (or day!) or use the top-down feature on the shades for complete privacy while you stargaze from bed. Your view is doubled by the wall-to-wall mirrored doors on the oversized closet, where you will find shelves and hangers and plenty of floor space. Add the restored vintage nightstands, dresser, and custom platform bed with drawers, and you have ample space to unpack. Conveniently do your laundry with the stacked units in one end of the closet, adjacent the hamper. BATH Take in the view of the Sausalito marina and San Francisco Bay from the shower while looking over the primary residence rooftop, and reflected in the oversized recessed cabinet mirrored doors. Enjoy a soak in the deep tub, keeping your eyes out for wandering quail, deer, and the occasional jackrabbit. Forget your toothbrush? We've got you covered with a spare, and a starter selection of cruelty-free toiletries and bath products. Find a blow dryer & lighted magnifying mirror stored in the vanity. WORKSPACE A petite floating desk with two drawers provides a low-footprint workspace or an area to stash paperwork & electronics you don’t want to look at. Comfortable vintage office chair on casters, four outlets & fast wifi for multiple devices & streaming services complete the setup. Close the bath & bedroom pocket doors for a clean video backdrop. The desk also serves well as a vanity table. DECK Two outdoor chairs + small table for enjoying your morning coffee with the songbirds on sunny days, or bundled up on misty ones listening to the foghorns outside the Golden Gate. Larger loungers are stored onsite and available on request at no charge. Though you are steeped in nature, you are about 7 minutes from San Francisco (and some of the best dining in the country) so from the deck you can hear the mostly lower-volume/white noise of cars headed that way on the 101 below the ridge. PRIVACY The only other home visible from Skylounge is through a few of the rear windows where you can see sections of the back of the main residence down the hill on the other side of a rocky outcropping. There will be occasional cars passing by on the residents-only road with delivery & construction vehicles, etc. though not high traffic. The trails can get busy at times on weekends. If preferred, you can block out all signs of human life :) and still enjoy the views with the top-down feature on the shades. TRAILS Hop across the road to dive into those astounding views by hiking and/or biking endless trails. We love telling you about our favorites! Storage for two bikes accessed from exterior entry. COASTAL NATIONAL PARK — MUST LOVE NATURE & VARIED WEATHER Summer gets FOGGY up here! When it's sweltering inland, the fog often rolls in at the coast. Late June-Sept can be socked in for up to a few weeks at a time with a "fog hat" covering the top of the ridge, while it's clear & sunny just down the hill. We love throwing on a fleece and hiking through the misty "Highlander" trails while the rest of the state swelters, and it's great sleeping with windows open to cool fresh air. But not everyone likes varied weather, and we want you to love your stay. It can also get very windy at times. We think it's pretty cool to experience the frequently changing drama of nature's moods while cozying up with a fire & books in the Skylounge. If you're lucky, you'll get to know the ravens that often nest in the adjacent tree. Fog Marin Headlands are coastal, so the fog can roll in anytime. In hotter months it often likes to hang around for awhile on top of the ridge. We love it, especially during heatwaves, but our fog is not for everyone, and we want every guest to love their stay. Wind The ridge can get windy. Really windy. Even then, it may be calm on the trail just around the corner. Or vice versa. Rain California: drought or deluge. Wildlife Our National Park is home to multiple wildlife species. Frequently encountered near Skylounge are myriad bird species including ravens & red shouldered hawks, who often rest or nest in our trees. Deer, coyotes, rabbits, bobcats and other critters visit as well. Sun The ridge sees plenty of beautiful clear days, when sometimes its hard to tell where the ocean meets the sky.
