The lands that surround it are many and very different, but they are all recognized for a heartfelt belonging to this ancient province that is certainly not made solely of its own, albeit solemn, Pisa. The landscape of this typically Tuscan countryside is characterized by rolling hills interspersed with lively plains and even important waterways, such as the Arno. Here, nature and human hands have come together to preserve an extraordinary landscape. First of all, there is the nature that provides precious thermal waters and harbingers of relaxing holidays, such as in Casciana, San Giuliano and Uliveto; there is the nature of the beaches for everyone, from Marina di Pisa to Tirrenia, passing through Calambrone and Marina di Vecchiano; then there is the nature of the silent and evocative countryside - the one that has peaceful places as its backdrop, such as Fauglia, Orciano or Lajatico, with its Theater of Silence, in fact -; there is the unspoiled nature of the Tenuta di San Rossore, where the scents of the pine forest welcome a rich fauna. A nature that welcomes the presence of man in the hills dotted with farmhouses and cypresses and on Monte Pisano, designed by mule tracks, terraces and trekking paths. It is in these same countryside areas that the strong peasant origins of this territory are preserved: the numerous farms that produce wine, oil, fruit, but also wheat and sunflowers provide quality products that make the food and wine of the Terre di Pisa heterogeneous and characterized by details that make it unique. Among the excellences to be mentioned is undoubtedly the PGI oil of the Monti Pisani; not to mention what the vineyards of Terricciola offer, for example, or in general the locations touched by the Wine Route of the Pisan Hills; the products of San Miniato such as white truffles or mallegato, a Slow Food Presidium sausage; beach honey; the derivatives of the Mucco Pisano and wild boar; as well as the many recipes handed down for generations and now excellently revised by some chefs. The ability to transform fine raw materials into top products is the same as that of artisans, who in this area still retain the desire to live from work done with mastery. This is the case of the ceramic cities such as Montopoli and Calcinaia, the woven baskets in Buti and the furniture of Cascina and Ponsacco, but also the Leather District, the area of Castelfranco, Santa Croce, Santa Maria a Monte, which is known for its leather processing. Craftsmanship has been sublimated into art in Pisa, a city that does not end in its Piazza dei Miracoli, but whose beauty is made up of characteristic squares such as that of the Vettovaglie and the Pera, museums and its poetic Lungarni. The art of these areas, which is a continuum throughout the territory, does not disdain modern and contemporary works either: it ranges from Calci, with the monumental Certosa that houses the Natural History Museum, to Vicopisano and Pontedera. Equally deserving are the villages scattered throughout the countryside, which often surprise with important museums: for example Capannoli, Chianni, Lari, Palaia and Peccioli. Finally, there is another common thread that unites all the places in this area and is the best way to get to know it in depth. The folkloristic events, village festivals and historical re-enactments are intense and lively, and bring out the true soul of the Terre di Pisa. LIFE IN TUSCANY Tuscany is made up of all the best that Italy has to offer: a thousand-year history, a rich culture, artisan traditions handed down for generations and, last but not least, food and wine, famous all over the world. THE AREA There are many reasons to visit Tuscany, the beautiful land nestled in central Italy. The essence of this region is also enclosed in the many small villages, often with a medieval legacy, which mark the surrounding landscape of continuous green hills. Pisa with its leaning tower is famous all over the world, as is the Chianti area, known for its wine tradition that produces some of the finest wines. Not to mention the wonderful cities of Florence and Siena. RESTAURANTS There are many restaurants, bars and pizzerias in Tuscany that offer traditional dishes. If you're looking for an authentic place to eat to experience real cuisine and the best wines, you're in the perfect place! NIGHTCLUBS AND BARS Tuscany may be a traditional and historical region of Italy, but it still has everything you need in terms of nightlife. Whether you like to take your night walks in the city or you like to drink a cocktail with your feet in the sand, in any case, Tuscany offers so many options that you may have difficulty choosing where your next evening will be. Summer activities The best time to visit Tuscany is from April to June and from September to October, when the weather is usually optimal.
