Tor Cabin - unique space in a unique location
Tor Cabin - unique space in a unique location
Description
The cabin is in a fantastic location right on Glastonbury Tor, and just a stone's throw from the famous Chalice Well. It’s just been rebuilt, to a very high standard, into an unusually-shaped beautiful, light and airy space, using eco/sustainable materials for nearly everything. The space The accommodation consists of one large room, on two levels, with a king size bed on the upper level, and a sofa that opens up into a Euro double bed on the lower one. There’s a fully-equipped kitchen at one end of the lower level, and shower/WC off the upper. The hardwood deck offers amazing views. A highlight is the trunk of a yew tree that was formerly growing on the spot, and which has been incorporated to form the central roof support. Because it's wider at one end than the other, the back slope of the roof has a twist to it, steeper at one end than the other. Guest access The cabin is self-contained, in the garden of the host's house, but is designed so that neither space intrudes on the other. it has its own access from the road, where parking for one car is available in the reserved residents' parking bay outside the main house. Other things to note The construction is of almost entirely ecological and sustainable materials. Walls are of hempcrete blocks, surfaced with lime plaster; the floor, ceiling, deck and window structures are FSC-certified timber and timber products; insulation is hemp and wood fibre, with a small amount of natural sheep's wool. Even the bed, sofabed and curtains are made with organic fabrics. Low energy far infra-red underfloor heating - a new technology - is covered by tiles, cool in summer and warm in winter. Sustainable paint and sealants have been used inside and outside. The wi-fi is ultrafast, as it runs from the house's 500MB full fibre (FTTP) connection. A couple of things to note:- - The first dozen or so steps from the road are steep, and aren't suitable for anyone with mobility issues. They may require caution. - The neighbouring field sometimes has sheep in it, you may hear them, or even occasionally smell them. - Being on Glastonbury Tor means that sometimes there are drummers nearby, on the Tor itself, at the White Spring nearby, and now occasionally in the Blossom Circle. These are not usually intrusive, and while we can't guarantee the silence you might find in many rural areas, the cabin is very well insulated for sound.
