The Steading is hidden in a peaceful glen of the Pentlands Hills Regional Park on Eastside, an organic hill sheep farm. With miles of open, rugged countryside & spectacular views, the Steading is a perfect family country escape for 4. Bring the kids - it's made for hill walking and exploring the farm or just unwinding by the cosy wood-burning stove. Easy access to Edinburgh is a huge bonus. Our handcrafted woodland sauna yurt with spring-water plunge pool can even be prepared specially for you. The space Originally an 18th Century hay-shed in the hills, the Steading has been lovingly converted with heaps of rural character & charm. The thick stone walls have seen many generations but still overlook the age-old sheep fold to the hills beyond. Wake to occasionally find the fold filled with our ewes gathered from the hill and peering into your kitchen window! Arrive to a old stone archway, with covered area for hiking boots and walking sticks. Utility cupboards here hold a washer, dryer and freezer. Through the door to an open plan country kitchen, spiral staircase & snug with wood-burning stove. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. There is a dining table set for four, two large sofas and a wood burning stove to gather around. Complimentary Netflix, board games and books provide entertainment inside with a door out to a private garden, fire pit and BBQ. A spiral staircase entices you upstairs to bed where warm duvets & comfortable beds await. Two bedrooms, a double & a twin room, make the cottage just right for up to 4 people. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower-room downstairs. A cot and highchair are available on request for children (for a small charge). Start the day with fresh air and long country walks from your doorstep. Take a day trip to Edinburgh or curl up with a good book from the cottage library. In the evening wrap up by the fire pit in your private cottage garden. Eastside is your perfect hideaway surrounded by a 3,000-acre hill farm. Guest access As a guest you have the private use of the whole cottage and plentiful logs for your wood burning stove and outdoor fire pit. The surrounding hills are yours to explore. Maps, flasks, tin mugs and a rucksack are provided to allow you to make the most of your surroundings. Hike from the doorstep or hire bikes a short drive away. Other things to note We are situated off the beaten track, hidden in a quiet glen in the Pentlands. Access to the cottage is up a 1 mile farm track. The track can be a little rough in places but shouldn't cause problems for ordinary cars. There is parking for one car provided. (30 seconds walk from cottage). Additional parking by arrangement. EV chargers are available. Luggage + shopping may be unloaded outside the cottage. As the cottage is 1 mile from the main road, we recommend the use of a car for the duration of your stay. We have a fibre internet connection with excellent wifi speeds. Inside, the accommodation is very quiet with thick stone walls and triple glazing. The accommodation is on an organic working hill farm and the surrounding landscapes are managed within various agri-environment schemes to encourage bio-diversity. Power is generated via a wind-turbine and heating from our biomass boiler fuelled with wood sustainably harvested on the farm. Embrace slow-living with the wood-fired steam sauna yurt and spring-water plunge pool hidden in the woodland garden. Private, 2 hour sessions are available to book on arrival at an additional fee and booking instructions are provided within the cottage. Note that the sauna is only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays - although we reserve the right to alter the specific times and days available as necessary. Registration Details ML00073F
