Freida Historic Farmhouse Bellingen

'Freida' is a step back in time - full of old world country charm - french doors, high ceilings, wrap around verandahs, a wood fire, claws foot bath and rambling bird-filled gardens. Super popular for family holidays and gatherings, Freida has a large cooks kitchen and loads of chill spaces. She’s also great for remote working with NBN service and long stay options. Please note, dear prospective guests, we have 1 main bathroom and two separate toilets. Works well but no ensuites. The space This is the home of Freida Hicks, a remarkable pioneer (originally from Germany) who cared for women and babies all across the Bellinger valley in the late 1800s. Her husband was the local medico. Originally known locally as 'the hospital', 'Frieda' has always been a home of nurturing and care. She is a classic Australian country homestead. The house has tall ceilings, is clad with the red cedar that the region is famous for and wrapped by large verandahs. The four double size bedroom all have french doors leading on to the verandah. The bathroom also looks out to the verandah and gardens and has a beautiful old claws foot bath. A favourite with all. The living area is spacious and open, a carefully blended addition to the original home after it was moved. There's a cook's kitchen with a 6 burner stove, dishwasher, loads of crockery and glasses for entertaining and a big central bench to hang out with the chef. The wood burning fire is the centre of the lounge room which looks out through french doors to the north, south and west. The verandahs have a hammock, lounges and a dining table. This is the kids favourite part of the house. They love to roar around on them. The combination of spacious living areas and the verandahs mean that large numbers of people are accommodated with ease and comfort - spacious, central places for gathering and nooks for quiet and private time. For extra large groups we can offer two bedrooms in our garden apartment below the western end of the house. The property is on 10 acres with 2 acres of orchards to wander through. There is abundant birdlife and it is bounded by a grove of trees and a creek (not for swimming). The beautiful Bellinger River is a short walk. Check out our reviews. We work on a “leave the it on the verandah and I’ll throw it on for you” system when we are onsite. Otherwise you will be welcome to access the laundry. Other things to note Our rule related to pets is that dogs are permitted outside. They need to be well trained and behaved and droppings picked up. There are gates on the veranda. We do sometimes make exceptions with inside doggies but need to talk about this. We ask you to consider the bird and wildlife with your pet. Sorry, no cats, we are careful of our many native birds.
