Enjoy Bay Area living in a well-appointed light-filled custom 400 sq ft guesthouse secured in the privacy of a park-like backyard in El Cerrito - only 15 min to Berkeley and 30 min to San Francisco via public transit. We are in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood with plenty of free street parking, close to markets, highways and only 2 blocks from BART transit. Stay home and enjoy the serenity of our yard and pet chickens, or hop on BART and in 30 minutes be exploring San Francisco sights. We enjoy providing a centrally located home base from which guests may explore all that the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer. We call our guesthouse the Coop. It is a 400-square foot (37-square meter) tiny home with a contemporary vibe. With a loft bedroom and a fully outfitted kitchen and shower bathroom, it is housed in the greenery and privacy of a deep backyard. Coop features include a full-sized bed accessed by a steep, sturdy ship’s ladder (see living room photos), a full-sized sleeper sofa, WiFi, a fire pit, washer/dryer access, plentiful free street parking, and an option for sharing our Level 2 EV charger. The Coop is ideal for solo or duo travel and will comfortably sleep three adults provided you all like each other. While our preferred guest capacity is 3, we are able to accommodate families of four with young children, and ask that you please communicate that intention in your booking. Note for parents of very young children: please be aware that the Coop is not child-proofed and the loft is not a suitable play area for toddlers and very young children. For safety reasons, and because we do not have a safety gate, cabinet locks and outlet protectors, small children should not be left unattended, particularly in the loft and on the ladder. *** Guests will have a full kitchen (complimentary freshly ground coffee/tea, a Chemex pour over coffee maker/French Press coffee maker, an electric kettle, an induction cooktop, a Breville oven, a blender, a rice cooker, a microwave, all pots/pans/sheets, and a neighborhood Safeway supermarket) and a shower bathroom featuring plush towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. Guests have access to our garage to do laundry - laundry supplies are provided. While we provide ample high speed wireless and a Bose Mini Soundlink bluetooth speaker, the Coop does NOT contain a TV. We do however have a small book library and board games. *** By car, from El Cerrito, it's an easy drive to San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley, 30 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge, 40 minutes to Muir Woods and 40 minutes to Napa. With only a 15 minute drive or a quick 3 stops on BART to the campus of UC Berkeley, we are well-situated for visiting Cal parents or families - e.g. Cal Day, Golden Bear Orientation, Alumni/Parents Weekend and Commencement. #GoBears For ideas on things to do while in the area, follow us on IG @beourguest510 or scroll through our AirBNB guidebook - A Coop Guest’s Guidebook to the Bay Area. Entry to the backyard and the Coop is via a smart locked gate off of our primary home's driveway. The well lit footpath follows a flagstone gravel path into our backyard, and descends eight steps down a natural rock staircase with a railing to our lower yard. Guests may feel comfortable using the entire backyard below our primary home and deck. Your hosts Vivian and Mac are friendly and approachable and enjoy being a resource for our guests, so please say hello. We call our guesthouse the Coop because we have egg-layers (aka chickens) on our property. Our backyard garden is shared space - you'll share the yard with your hosts and the "ladies", Ivory, Phoebe and Joey, and Maggie, who we let roam and forage outside their pen in the late afternoons. Guests may do laundry between 8 am and 8 pm inside the garage of our main house - or by arrangement with hosts. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets are provided. An iron, ironing board, stain remover are all available in the Coop. An EV charging option is available for a daily use fee which can be coordinated directly with Vivian or Mac. Hosts live on property working from home in our main house and will typically be available throughout a guest's stay. We enjoy being Airbnb hosts and will do whatever we can to accommodate and make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. Having said that, we also respect a guest's desire for privacy and are comfortable communicating via Airbnb text messages. Our home is nestled in the extremely walkable neighborhoods of El Cerrito's foothills, where a stroll among our rolling hills will provide you with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay. Take in a view that includes the cityscapes of downtown Oakland and San Francisco and the natural beauty of Angel Island, the Marin headlands and Mount Tamalpais. Enjoy an evening walk (or just stand in our driveway) to watch Karl the Fog roll through our Golden Gate, or end the day with a glass of wine on our Coop stoop under skies colored with shades of sunset red. Welcome to our neighborhood! If you wish to go further afield, we are minutes from Berkeley/Oakland/San Francisco, within an hour's drive of the wine countries of Napa and Sonoma, and an easy day trip to the Muir Woods National Monument, Point Reyes National Sea Shore and Monterey Bay Aquarium. Even Yosemite National Park - 3 hours by car - can be done in a day trip if you're ambitious. Our location within a two block walk from El Cerrito del Norte BART Station means that you do not necessarily need to have a car to get into and around San Francisco and the Bay Area during your visit. On BART, in 31 minutes, you will be in the heart of downtown San Francisco. San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) Airports are easily accessed via BART. Del Norte Station also a Regional Transit hub for local AC (Alameda- Contra Costa County) Transit bus services, and for commuter bus feeder services from Solano, Napa, and Marin Counties in the North Bay as well as western Contra Costa County. With free neighborhood parking, getting around by car is easy as our location right off of the Eastshore Freeway (Interstate 80) and a few miles from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge (Interstate 580) means that you can be tasting in wine country, hiking on the bluffs over the Pacific or visiting many other points of interest in between very easily. Parking is ample in our neighborhood with 4 hour parking (Mon-Fri 7 am to 6 pm) in front of our home and unrestricted parking just one block up our hill. Our cleaning fee is a pass through expense for the professional cleaning that ensures guests are provided a clean and sanitized environment.
