For the aquatic lovers in your family, Mystic Aquarium is also a very short 5 minute drive away, located in Olde Mistic Village. You are also a 5 minute drive into downtown Mystic from the vacation home. The town is loaded with fantastic family fun for all ages! Grab a coffee and a gourmet hand-crafted pastry at Sift Bake Shop, perhaps a cocktail at Mix Rooftop & Bar, or a fresh seafood dish for lunch at Red36. These are just a few of the many fine dining establishments located in town. Wind down the day with a stroll through the shops in downtown Mystic, near the Mystic River Bascule Bride. There is so much to experience in historical Mystic, CT. There are many places in the Mystic River Watershed for canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding including both official and unofficial places to put-in. The surrounding area offers guests the opportunity to visit well known historic areas such as Niantic, Mashantucket Pequot Museum, Mystic Seaport & Aquarium, Harkness Memorial Park, Fort Trumbull, Fort Griswold, and Ocean Beach Park. Besides the beautiful sugar sand beach, Ocean Beach Park has a boardwalk, minigolf, pools, water slides, playgrounds and food vendors. The Clinton Shopping Outlets, Lake of Isles Golf Course, Foxwoods Casino, and Mohegan Sun Casino are within 20 minutes away by car! Visit "Supercharged" in Montville, the area's largest indoor carting, gaming, ninja wipeout, trampoline, and axe throwing facility. The US Coast Guard Academy is just minutes away. Misquamicut State Beach is only a 25 minute drive from the home. There are many restaurants and outdoor venues such as Paddy's Beach Club. Pavilion Beach Bar in Old Lyme is a 35 minute drive from the home. Ocean Beach Park is a only 10 minute drive from the home. The admission booth is located at vehicle entrance gate. There are also numerous places in the local area to kayak, paddle board, fish, launch a boat, and/or utilize jetskis. Waterford Beach right next to Ocean Beach, is great for jet skis and small boats; Waterford Park and recreation area; Pleasure Beach boat launch in Waterford by Great Neck School on RT 213; Boat launch under Gold Star Bridge; Boat launch in Niantic by Sunset Ribs. Unfortunately, fishing is prohibited at Ocean Beach Park. This is clearly notated on the Ocean Beach Park website. Although, there is Alewife Cove, directly across the street from the home, which also funnels into the Atlantic and great for kayaking or paddle boarding . Here are some other areas to fish within a very short driving distance: Harkness Memorial State Park, Waterford; Fishing is allowed along the beach; No swimming allowed. Fish to be caught: blackfish, bluefish and striped bass can be caught off the rocky point and summer flounder off the beach. Fort Trumbull State Park, New London Handicapped Accessible; There is 24 hour pedestrian access from Riverfront Walk to Pier 4 on the Thames River; Regulations are posted on the pier. Fish to be caught: bluefish, striped bass, summer flounder, hickory shad, scup, tautog, winter flounder and weakfish. Some great places to rent bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards are "Three Belles Marina" in Niantic Ct, "Action Sports" in Old Saybrook CT, and "Blue Heaven Kayak & Paddle Board Rentals" also "Adventure Mystic Outdoor Retail Store & Paddle Mystic - Kayak, Paddleboard, and Bike Rental" and "Mystic Supply" in Mystic CT. The Amtrack and ShoreLine East train station is just a short 5 minute drive away in Downtown Mystic, and in New London a Greyhound Bus station and Major Ferry Station - The Cross Sound Ferry that ships to Orient Point Long Island, where you can explore the wineries. Also, the Block Island Ferry and the Fishers Island Ferry add to the adventurous getaways available by sea. There is no shortage of day trips you can take when it's just a 5 minute drive back to the house! But if you feel the urge to travel by air, the Bradley International Airport (Hartford CT) and Tweed New Haven Regional Airport (New Haven CT) are an hour away, and Rhode Island T.F.
