Our spacious but cozy, minimalist A-frame cabin set in the Catskills on 5 acres has been a labor of love over the last 8 years. Renovated and lovingly/continuously perfected and tweaked by father (carpenter) and son (acoustical engineer) team, the Evergreen A is a family treasure which we’re excited to now share with Airbnb. It’s the ideal romantic escape from the city -quiet space for reading, creating, and contemplation and/or the ideal base for cycling / hiking / fly-fishing adventures. The cabin is essentially one open space. It is set up for couples or a small family. Downstairs is a private full bath; the kitchen / dining area / living room are open. Half the footprint is double-height, and upstairs is a loft sleeping area with a queen bed, storage, and a desk/chair overlooking the cabin and forest outside. The upstairs loft has no wall, so there is minimal privacy to the living room. The living room has two 6' couches that are great for an afternoon nap. The stairs to the loft are relatively steep and there's no guardrail at the stair opening upstairs. Caution and agility is required; kids and clumsy people should be extra careful. The internet is cable modem and fast. Great space for remote work with the desk upstairs, or set up at the dining table. There is a Mitsubishi split-system for heating and cooling, plus a propane-fired stove for extra warm coziness and the fireplace ambiance. Opening the windows and turning on the ceiling fan usually makes it perfect all summer long w/o a need to turn on the AC. The furnishings have been hand picked or made by me by hand. The decor is slightly minimalist, but with a few pieces displaying my love of fly fishing. I will try to keep the photos up to date, but details that will continue to be tweaked as this place is a forever project. The area is the southern side of the Catskills. We are on a nice and pretty wooded country road. The neighbors are a mix of full time residents, city weekenders, a run down farm, and a bungalow colony. Most of the lots on the road are 5 acres so it’s wooded rural and private but not deep in the woods isolation. There is a deck to sit and enjoy the sun, a lawn to run the dog, and a few acres of woods to traipse around. But we have really great hiking, cycling, fishing, swimming are all very accessible with a short drive. You have access to the whole cabin and the grounds. The shed will remain locked. Dianne or Adam will generally be available to help/provide advice and are a short drive away. The cabin sits on 5 acres up a dirt driveway, off a lovely bucolic farm road that sees little traffic. The plot is wooded with a little trail through the woods up the hill to a nice vista either east or west. There's a grassy area around a beautiful elm tree and a small meadow for lounging in the sun. Also a fire pit and quite a few car-size pebbles for perching and basking in the sun. The surrounding area is mostly wooded and the other houses are far enough away to give you privacy and a feeling of being remote, but not totally isolated. The immediate surrounding area is a mix of full-time residents, city weekenders, bungalow colonies, farms, and lots of woods. The neighbors are a few hundred feet away, and can't really see through to the neighbors except when the leaves are down. Take your morning coffee out on the deck au naturale, should you like. We are 15 minutes from Ellenville which has a handful of good restaurants / bars, groceries, a theater, and a swinging jazz speakeasy. 10 minutes away is Mountain Dale which has two great restaurants/bars and flea markets in the summer. 20 minutes away is Monticello with a great butcher, several grocery stores, a great art museum, and the box stores. A wee bit further (25 minutes) is Livingston Manor and Roscoe for that cutesy artisanal Catskills vibe. If you are a road cyclist, it is heaven whatever way you go out the front door. I have many route suggestions I can provide. If you are a fly fisher, 5 minutes away is a local secret - The Beer Kill. 10 minutes away is the mighty Neversink River, or 25 minutes to the Neversink Unique Area, the Beaverkill, the Willowemoc. All fabled and lovely water. And lots of small hidden secret streams closeby that are filled with brook trout that you will have to find yourself. For the hikers, there are lots of options. Minnewaska, Neversink Gorge, Peekamoose, Lundy, Slide Mountain are the places I go when I want a walk in the woods. You'll want a car to get around well. There are buses from the city to Monticello, 20 minutes away. Or trains 45-60 mins away in Otisville and Poughkeepsie, respectively. Go for a leisurely walk down the road or a cycle as far as you're able - but you'l probably want a car for getting to any of the local restaurants or stocking up on groceries.
