The Whisperwood: Clean & Cozy

You'll find this to be a convenient base for all your Black Hills adventures and a retreat space full of cozy furnishings, vintage touches, and local art. Located in central Rapid City, close to downtown, the hospital and Mt. Rushmore Road. Despite being in the city, it gives a lot of cabin vibes with the wood paneling, fireplace and quiet neighborhood. We prioritize a functional, clean, aesthetic space and are locally-minded hosts. The space The home is split into two separate units: one on each level. You will have a private self-contained unit on the basement/downstairs level. Kitchen: Features an induction cooktop range with exterior venting, tiled back wall and floating shelves, storage for food, refrigerator with icemaker, dual sink, pots and pans, utensils, spices and containers for cooking everything. There is no dishwasher. Main Bedroom: It has a queen bed, bookshelf including a USB-C outlet for direct charging of phones, chair, antique wood dresser, closet with hangers, and two windows (including egress) to the east and south. The Bunkroom aka "The Bunker": A cozy, evocative sleeping space with just enough room for a twin bunkbed and LED neon light. The doors open directly into the main living space. Main Living Space: There are four chairs at the dining table, two bamboo chairs, a chest of board-games, a thrifted Reindeer hide, and a deep full-grain leather loveseat you can curl up in by the electric fireplace. Bathroom: A fresh, spa-like space with a large tiled walk-in shower, southern window, and plenty of storage, toilet, nightlight, towels and entry to water heater room. Laundry Room: This shared space is just a turn outside your entry door and contains laundry supplies for your use and functions as storage for our cleaning supplies and extras. Backyard: is fairly spacious and has clothes-line for drying and patio area. The landscaping is a bit lackluster but is on our agenda to update. Guest access Downstairs/basement level of the duplex, laundry room, backyard, and alley parking lot. Other things to note This is a duplex home; there will be some amount of noise from the upstairs unit, and the laundry area and yard is shared. There is no dishwasher in the kitchen. There is one TV and it is stored in the laundry room on a rolling stand. It is easy to move around wherever you need, but if you would like us to set it up ahead of time for you in the living room or bedroom, we are happy to do so. The bunkroom is a very tight space not a full bedroom, and we recommend any guests sleeping there leave a door open for ventilation. For summer/fall 2023 guests: the upstairs level is currently being remodeled. We try to time any noisy construction projects when we have gaps in our booking schedule or when you are out exploring the hills. We may message you during your stay to check if you'll be in/out.
