Description

Enjoy the privacy of this peaceful, comfortable cottage set within a beautiful Karen garden with views of the Ngong Hills. Escape the hustle and bustle of Nairobi, but remain within easy reach of shops and tourist attractions. Sit back and relax on the verandah of your private cottage which sits next to an attractive family home on a shared and secure site. Staff are available to help keep your cottage clean and tidy. You'll love staying here! The space You will find our family home in the quiet Nairobi suburb of Karen. On arrival you will come through an electric gate, and you can park securely in a spacious parking area. The cottage is next to the main family home and has its own private entrance. You will come into a small hallway and find a fully equipped kitchen to your left. Ahead is the living area with comfortable seating and a king size bed with a mosquito next. This room opens into a light and airy workspace and has double doors opening onto a spacious verandah where you can relax comfortably and enjoy outdoor dining. The ensuite bathroom has a shower, toilet and basin and towels and soaps are provided. Outside you have your own garden area, and you can also enjoy access to the main garden. Tea and coffee are available in the kitchen. Lucy will also ensure there is milk in the fridge on your arrival. Drinking water will be available by the basin in the bathroom and in the fridge. Guest access The whole guest cottage is yours, along with the garden area directly in front of it. You are also welcome to wander freely in the rest of the garden and enjoy the lovely views of the Ngong Hills. Whilst you will love the evening views from your verandah, a beautiful sundowner spot at the end of the garden can be used on discussion with the host. The main house is immediately next door where Lucy and her husband, Daniel, live. They are more than happy to answer questions and help to make your stay more relaxed. Wairemu works as their Housekeeper and is available for general cleaning, tidying and washing up within the guest cottage - please let us know if you would like her to come into the cottage. For a fee of $6 (per wash) Wairemu will do washing and ironing of clothes. Other things to note Things to be aware of before you book: We have a friendly labrador who may pop in to say hello! Do please tell us if you do not like dogs and we are happy to keep him away. We also have a cat who may come to visit. Karen is an ever-changing suburb and building is not uncommon. Therefore you may experience some noise during the daytime linked to construction in the local area. There are no wild animals that you need to be concerned about on our property. You will enjoy some wonderful birdlife and you are likely to hear the cry of the tree hyrax and bush babies at night! Our water is heated by a solar system. When the weather is sunny there should be plenty of hot water. However, if you want to boost the hot water, you will find a switch inside the cupboard outside the bathroom - press the circular switch. This is set on a timer and you should have hot water within 30 - 60 minutes. Whilst malaria is not a concern in Nairobi, the mosquitos can be a little tiresome in the evenings. Therefore you are advised to sleep with the mosquito net around your bed, and there is a can of mosquito spray which you can make use of if necessary. You may also want to bring your own mosquito repellent with you. Power cuts are fairly common in Nairobi, and whilst they don't generally last long, you will have solar lights available to use if necessary. Our invertor will ensure that some lights and the wifi will remain working. However, a powercut may affect the water pressure leading to the cottage - we can connect a generator for this if the power goes off for an extended time. The tap water is not for drinking, but can be used for boiling and cooking. Some drinking water will be provided by the bathroom basin and in the fridge, but it would also be worth bringing some of your own. On your front door key you will find attached a remote control for the main gate. Take this with you if you go in and out of the property during your stay so that you can open the gate - you can do this by pressing the blue button. It will close automatically.
