Squirrel Hideaway Campsite
Squirrel Hideaway Campsite
Description
This location is designated for camping only. Guests must provide their own camping equipment. The campsite is situated approximately 100 feet from the parking area, offering seclusion with a fire pit and picnic table. Restroom facilities are located adjacent to the greenhouse. For after-hours arrivals, proceed past the cabin, descend the hill, turn right to park, and then follow the signage along a short trail beyond the Bear Hollow site to reach your campsite. The space This campsite is among six at True Serendipity Homestead, established by Mike and Cheryl Whitmore, spanning 25 acres with a two-acre pond. It features six tent sites, trails, gardens, chickens, and more to explore. We relocated here at the pandemic's onset, armed with a dream and a prayer to forge a new existence in the Maine woods. While most in their mid-60s might cling only to the dream, we embraced the adage that life is lived but once and took the plunge. My background ranges from lumber milling to servicing jet fighters in the Marine Corps. Cheryl, with a master's in art, is adept with tools. One summer, we processed timber I harvested from our land, and together, we constructed a small cabin, surviving the winter of 2020. The following spring, we completed the cabin and began listing our campsites on Hipcamp. In just two seasons, we were honored with second place in Maine for the best Hipcamp tent site. We continue to build: a blacksmith shop (with classes on the horizon), a chicken coop, gardens, and more. Our vision is to cultivate a haven where visitors can immerse in authentic living, proving that anyone with a dream and a work ethic can achieve such a lifestyle. Guest access This off-grid homestead offers a plethora of sights to behold. You are welcome to explore everything except the interior of our cabin and workshop. Enjoy visiting the chickens, unwinding in the gardens, strolling along the trails, and fully rejuvenating both body and mind! During your stay During your stay, you will be able to reach us by voice telephone or text, and we will do our utmost to accommodate any needs you may have, 24/7.
