We’re in the heart of Amish Country! From the breathtaking view and nature that surrounds you, to the quiet location and spacious layout, Perry’s Orchard is the perfect place to find peace and relaxation. Set up on a hill overlooking the Doughty valley you’ll see buggies, horses in the field and farmland. We have everything you need for a long-term stay or a quick getaway. If you’re looking to explore, we’re only minutes from Berlin and many of the area’s biggest attractions. Inside you’ll find everything you need to prepare your own food, as well as a propane grill outside. The kitchen and living room boast a 17 foot tall ceiling, accented with a wooden beam made from American Chestnut that was cut from the woods in the 1930’s on the original family farm. In the living room space you’ll notice old family photos. The owners of this beautiful home, Rod and Valerie, wanted to share a glimpse of the lives of Perry and his wife Lydia, the grandparents who built the family farm close by. My personal favorite is the photo of Lydia cooking maple syrup outside. In the master bedroom the trim used was wood leftover from building the farmhouse in the 1930’s as well. So as you can tell, the home is brand new, but completed with heritage pieces that hold great importance to the family. Additionally, you’ll notice nods to Africa in the living room, main bedroom, as well as some photos in the hallway and throughout the space. Rod and Valerie have been missionaries in Africa for 32 years. They got the opportunity to build their forever home which they are delighted to be able to share with you as they continue with their missions in Africa. You are welcome into all spaces, except the two doors in the garage. One is locked and the other is the utility room and absolutely only to be used in an emergency. Our location is a: One minute drive to Hershberger’s Farm and Bakery. “This is a one-of-a-kind experience featuring an Amish bakery, store, produce market, food trailer, & petting area. Each season offers a different experience. Each Spring the petting area hosts baby animals including goats, pigs, calves, rabbits, chicks, & more. In addition to the Amish bakery products available year-round, the food trailer opens with an excellent menu. Spring flowers, including hanging baskets, are plentiful. Summer starts the produce season & you will find a large selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables. Fall brings changing leaves, pumpkins & fall decorations. Enjoy a wagon ride to pick your own. Winter offers excellent views and smaller crowds for wholesome baked and canned goods.” Two minutes from Doughty Farm Meats if you want to stock up on quality meats or just want to grab something to prepare during your stay. Six minutes from Amish Country Riding Stables and Guggisburg Swiss Inn if you’d like to enjoy a horseback ride followed by a glass of wine. Seven minutes from Berlin town center, which is lined with plenty of shopping and a few places to eat. Beyond that, there is so much each area has to offer. You will want to bring your own means of transportation as our area has not gotten privy to ride shares or taxis. The two single beds in the third bedroom are a trundle bed. The second single pulls out from under the visible one. The self-inflating air mattresses will be found in the first bedroom closet on the floor. Full disclosure, the hot water may take some time to actually get hot. I’ve tested it on two different occasions and it takes a solid two minutes to get hot and just a little longer to get really hot. It feels longer in our ‘instant gratification,’ but at least for myself, two minutes was the turning point. We have four Adirondack chairs around our fire pit and four more outdoor folding chairs available in the laundry room closet. There is plenty of space for outdoor games and a small path behind the house that is a work in progress. There is plenty of firewood on site but feel free to bring your own dry wood as ours is not covered. There are board games and card games in bedrooms 2 and 3. There are also ten marshmallow roasting sticks and two hot dog roasting sticks in cloth bags on a shelf in the pantry.
