About the area Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Belle Vue Cottage is perfectly positioned for both relaxation and adventure. With easy access to walking and cycling routes, the area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. The many nearby lakes are perfect for fishing, swimming, or simply soaking up the sun. This is a renowned carp-fishing region, and we're happy to advise guests on the best local spots and how to access them. The region is also steeped in fascinating history. Just 15 minutes away is the magnificent Château de Montbrun, closely associated with Richard the Lionheart. A further 10 minutes away lies the historic town of Châlus, where the remains of the castle can still be seen and where Richard was famously wounded by an arrow in 1199. For those interested in World War II history, hidden Resistance camps can be visited just 5 minutes away. Walk through the forest and discover how these brave fighters lived and operated during the occupation—please ask us for details and directions. Places to visit Alongside the idyllic scenery and stunning views, the area offers a wonderful selection of restaurants, cafés, markets, and places of interest. The cities of Limoges and Angoulême are both less than an hour's drive away and make excellent day trips. Limoges offers shops, museums, a cinema, a zoo, and rail connections to Paris and the south of France. Angoulême is known for its historic centre, cathedral, museums, vibrant café culture, and TGV connection to Paris, which can be reached in approximately two hours. For walkers and cyclists Step straight from the cottage onto a network of scenic chemins and walking trails that wind through the surrounding countryside. Many routes are accessible directly from the door, while others are just a short drive away. One favourite local walk circles the nearby lake, where you'll find two cafés, a lovely sandy beach, and a child-friendly swimming area. Cycling is particularly popular here thanks to the mix of quiet country roads and off-road trails suitable for a range of abilities. The Tour de France has even passed through the area on occasion. To make things easier for cyclists, we also provide an undercover place for storing bicycles and motorbikes. Fishing Fishing is a major attraction throughout the region, with numerous lakes and waters just a short journey from the cottage.
