Here, they can relax with a book and a drink. I have also added an outside dining table with an umbrella and 4 chairs where guests can sit and eat meals. There is also space to park in the driveway if guest chooses to drive. Guest can phone me, text, email, or come upstairs my residence to call or get me. The Mt. Moritz community is a very interesting and vibrant place. It is perched on land that boasts acres and acres of rich vegetation and many people depend on agriculture for their livelihood. With its rich history of Irish, Scottish, and English immigrants who first settled on the island of Barbados before immigrating to Grenada, to work on the cocoa and sugarcane plantations, it has become a favorite and desirable place to live. The village contains a school, postoffice, medical station, a few grocery stores and bars, a large playing field next to the community center, and a great many hiking trails. In the pasts many people used to raise livestock such as cows, goats, sheep, and pigs which was then slaughtered and sold to the people in the community. Mt. Moritz is a very close knit community where neighbors look out for each other and share among themselves. If someone in the community gets sick or is hospitalized, everyone rallies together to render aid to that person. But like most small communities, everyone knows everybody's business and share in the local gossips. The Moritz community center is used for many local events including a monthly breakfasts where local food is cooked and sold. There is a large playing field surrounding the community house where cricket and football competitions used to occur. Because Mt. Moritz nestles on hilly land and it's close to the coast, there is always a cool breeze blowing through the village. Quite a large number of the original inhabitants of Mt. Moritz have immigrated to Australia, the United States, and England. But, many traditions still hold fast in the community: All saints night, November 1st, where locals burn candles on the Graves of their deceased love ones and sing hymns. On November 5th, an English tradition: The burning of Guy Fox is carried out and a delicacy called Konkie is made. It is mostly made with pumpkin, cornmeal, Sweet potatoes, coconut milk, sugar, and spices. In addition, celebrations such as Harvest, Independence day, Carnival, Christmas, and other festivities are yearly occurrences. From a past of isolation and independence, of racial discrimination, and exclusion of strangers, the Mt.Moritz community has learned to embrace people of all colors and races, has accepted what was known as "Outsiders", into what has now become a melting pot of racial harmony, the building of friendships and acceptance, a continuing bond of unity and loyalty to one another and the preservation of a village seeped in mystery and tradtion. There are 2 local busses (#8) running in the community. In addition, other busses from outside of the community passes through the village on their way to Happy Hill and Molinere, and will also take you to St.George's city. The fare to St. George's from Mt.Moritz is $2.50 E C. The return fare is the same. One can call a cab if they wish to use alternate transport or if they are courageous enough to drive on purpose narrow roads, can rent a vehicle to take them around. The Airbnb is situated downstairs my residence. There are no stairs to climb and the unit has its own private entrance. The entire two bedroom apt is for guests. It is comfortable and quiet and comes fully equipped with everything that a guest may need during their stay. Feeel free to walk through the neighborhood and interact with the locals. They are very friendly and accommodating. Guests are welcome to utilize ( calalou) equivalent to U.S Spinach, which grows on the property. It is used in various dishes such as in Oil down, (our national dish), Creamed calalou, which consist of coconut milk, okra, and spices, and also Calalou soup, made with salted meat, ground vegetables, coconut milk, and spices. In addition, the backyard has lots of mango trees where guests are welcome to pick mangoes: Julie, Ceylon, and Bombay (prime mangoes)when they are in season, of course. There is someone in the village who sells food. If any guest is interested in ordering a meal for when they arrive, please give me advanced notice and I will order it. It is just a few U S.dollars. Also, I can arrange to send a taxi to pick you up at the airport for a fee of $80 EC which is equal to $30 USD.
