A 1930s cottage with no neighbours, set in open countryside in Charente-Maritime. The garden is generous and unfenced, with a fire pit, sun loungers, yoga mats, and a charcoal BBQ. Wildlife comes and goes as it pleases. There is one bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a recently renovated bathroom, and a private outdoor spa to sink into after a relaxing day. Cognac country is on the doorstep and the Atlantic coast is close too. The ideal spot for time away for two. The space The space The cottage was built in the 1930s and has been renovated with care. The lounge has a wood burner and is the kind of room you settle into rather than pass through. The kitchen is fully equipped for proper cooking. The bedroom is comfortable and quiet, with good quality bedding and shutters to keep the light and heat out. Outside The garden is the best part. It is large, unfenced, and opens directly onto farmland and fields. There is a fire pit, sun loungers, yoga mats, outdoor seating, and a charcoal BBQ. The private outdoor spa sits in the garden and is especially good in the evening. On a clear night there are more stars than you are used to. Wildlife Deer, hares, storks, and all manner of birds pass through the garden regularly. It is their landscape and you are borrowing it for a few days. Getting around The countryside around the cottage is good for walking, cycling, and long drives with no particular destination. There is a river nearby for fishing. The cognac houses are close, the Île de Ré and the Atlantic coast are within easy reach, and the local markets are worth the trip. Two bikes are available for complimentary use throughout your stay. Practical things There is fast fibre Wi-Fi throughout. The cottage sits on a quiet road with no through traffic. It sleeps two. We welcome pets at no additional cost. Guest access Location The cottage is in Voissay, a quiet village in rural Charente-Maritime. It is a 10 minute drive from exit 34 on the A10. The nearest airports are La Rochelle (1 hour) and Bordeaux (1 hour 45 minutes). The closest train stations are Saint-Savinien and Saintes, both a short drive away. Parking and access There is private off-street parking for up to two vehicles. The house is bike-friendly with no steps to navigate from the road. Guest access You have exclusive use of the entire cottage and garden. The local convenience store in Les Nouillers is a short bike ride away. Accessibility There are steps from the parking area to the house, steps from the garden into the kitchen, and two steps between the lounge and the bedroom. The property is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility. Fire pit The fire pit is not available during dry season due to the risk of forest fires. The garden is unfenced, so please keep your dog close when people pass along the road. The locals are friendly but not all are comfortable with dogs approaching them. We ask that you clean up after your dog in the garden and around the property. Treats and a water bowl are provided for four-legged guests.
